can attend the Syracuse game walking with his cane you can too! Including Wednesday & Saturday!!!!
I am calling them prefab, because I don't have time to hang up & listen to your, I support the VOLS, but...
1. I can't walk 3 or 4 blocks. Bull. I said, "Hello" to Coach Mears after the game Saturday night & if he can stay the entire game & walk with a cane to get there, you can, too.
2. They will take my sign. Bull. I enjoyed TBA's company in the first half, Saturday night, & they did not confiscate his ORANGE, WHITE, & BLACK face as he disappeared into the students section as a rowdie!! TBA has even offered you tickets for MTSU.
3. Ron Slay is gone! Bull. He will be on the bench & will continue to be the most effective cheerleader in UT history no matter what news he gets today. He needs your applause & your prescence.
4. They frisk you at TBA. Yeah, they do, & for some of you, including bin 99JC, that is the best you are going to get this week.
5. Ron Slay is gone part II. For a while, yes, but I have seen Brandon Crump & Elgrace Wilborn play & they were tough enough against the 'cuse's big line at the end Saturday. Buzz is teaching them to switch with an occasional Buzz up!!
6. I can't go because, the NFL playoffs are on. No, you UT fans that rip UT basketball don't have the NFL excuse tonight & the rest of the week. When Tennessee is a man short, that is when true Volunteers should step up. If you cannot go this week, then I would suggest you stop ripping the UT Basketball program--all of it.
7. Uncle Jerry recruited these players! Yes, one is Marcus Haslip. I have watched too much basketball & Marcus is one of the best players UT has had period--he is a basketball player! You are SHORTING yourselves as fans, if you do not go see Marcus Haslip play in these home games!!
8. Our guards are down. They maybe down from Tony Harris, but Jenis Grindstaff has already hit more shots in the lane this year than Tony Harris did all this year!
9. Buzz is losing close games. This guy is going to get it done & bring a National Championship to UT. Right now, you need to put your rear & mouth in the TBA seats, no excuse. Right now, after losing Slay, this team needs your loud & long support--not through a TV!
10. [Blank.] You fill in your excuse! Raise the expectations for yourself.
[Sorry I am late with this, but I will bring it back up before Wednesday.]
And Let OSVF Shmooze with a Jethro than to stay at home and suffer his wrath!!!
Look us up Sky in 301, we have plenty of nose bleed hankies at the ready. And I KNOW you will not need a seat. Hell man you never use the thing!
You are defintely one of the more passionate fans I've ever come across, be it in person or on the net. You might be sheepy, but I respect your loyalty to your cause.
One minor note, SU's frontline is not big, in fact it's rather undersized. The beating SU took on the glass from UT was the reason the comeback couldn't be finished off. That Haislip is one bad dude in the middle. The rebound slam he had was an amazing athletic feat.
I have long been known for being full of it--ORANGE, too. I know I often come across as a homer, but I do actually enjoy watching other teams & even the NFL, when they are motivated. About 15 years ago, as Homer himself might have written, I let work cause me to drift away from my instincts & my UT sports home. I have returned. At this stage in my sports life, I must be focused on UT. The VOLS probably don't need my help, but I offer it freely & of course without charge.
Your 'cuse front line is not bad. Buzz has Yarbrough, Haslip, Crump, & Wilborn Buzzed up and leaping & fighting after rebounds like there is no tomorrow. To see Yarbrough on the floor after the ball is a thing of beauty. I think Vincent is a better rebounder & thief than he is any thing else. 44's, I am serious about Marcus Haslip & intend to start a thread on the new board about him: I think he is the best "basketball" player UT has had since Dale Ellis!! He passes, rebounds, shoots short, medium, & long, runs the court, & he is beginning to play defense like Bill Russell did in the sense that he is laying back to affect the shots & position for the rebound, whereas early this year & last, he was trying to blast the ball into the stands & would end up running by the guy or putting himself out of position. You have to see the guy in person. Vincent & Slay are good SEC players, but they pale in comparison to what he is doing as a complete player at this point.
TBA, It was a pleasure to view the first half with you & Jennifer last night. You seem to have some connections with the Tall-Mart greeters. I know at some point soon you are going to fill your seats in 301. Thanks for coming down to the snooze level again to bring your energy to those glued to their seats with ORANGE glue in Thompson Boling!
For those of you who continue to stay home, you are missing a great show--watching Buzz on the sideline, Jenis in the lane, & Haslip above the rim is worth the time & money, if you are a UT basketball fan.
Also, TBA pointed out to me where Phil sits high on his throne at Thompson Boling. It is almost worth the price of admission to glance up and see Phil sitting diagonally across from where TALL Guy sits with the court between them. There is a certain symmetry Or balance to it, if you know what I mean.
The Ballad of Tall Guy, the Taliban and Smokey the Dog
January 22 2002, 11:03 AM
Towards the end of the game I took Jenny down behind the Vol bench to meet Smokey. We were ahead by 16 or so and as we made our way around the circumference of the TBA, had to fight our way through the fans leaving early. I hate that....
So in trying to get Smokeys attention right at the cloth strip that blocks the entrance to courtside, some fans there were also trying to get his attention while the Taliban Greeter looked at me in distain. I just smiled at him and pointed at our mascots back but he did not flinch. Untill Tall Guy himself came down from behind me and.....
Did I ever tell ya the story about the ......, just kidding.
AND....beat a hasty retreat from courtside. The usher fell all over himself getting Jennifer and myself out of the way and TG dissapeared in to the shadows. I did note however that he was smiling as he went, but not at us.
Then Smokey turns around, sees Jenny and spent 5 minutes over with us as the game ended. Saved by the Dog!!!!
Phil, was it or was it not a debacle that we didn't win by 20 plus? A win is a win but....ya know what I mean?
Sky your passion drips off the written word much the same as you support the Vols in person. But for the life of me your perspective from behind the goal takes some getting used to!
Sorry I got seperated last night TBA, while answering the first call (of nature), I heard the second (come on down!)and in the ensuing madness couldn't locate you and young Jen. I ran into some old school friends at halftime and had some good catching up during the game. I spotted you and Jen doing your PR work with Smokey towards the end of the game but couldn't locate you guys afterward. Thanks again for the ticket, it's too bad the SPS section wasn't more populated.
I agree Marcus Haislip must be seen in person in order to appreciate his gift.
I will not use it as an excuse, but I was/am laid up with some awful crud. Tommorrow i miss my second straight day of work. My eye wich was swollen shut has now parted! This is absolutely the worse sinus infection I have ever had, Basilio would be proud.
Hope to be back in the mix and the hunt in a few days. I know Sixstring, TBA and Jen wanted no part of my germs. If I could have found a way to enter through the usher and ticket taker gate and sit with Tall I might have went.
I wondered what had happened to you! We waited up in 301 for around 15 minutes and then went down to join Sky, then Phil and finaly Smokey Dog.
A lot of that game was brutal to watch between the refs retarded calls, some very funky basketball for long stretches and that hexed southern backboard and rim. I had not seen so many shots careem off the rim and fail to drop since the vols had it during the Syracuse game.
That goal needs exorcised.
I feel your pain. Before Christmas I had that sinus infection, too, but I did the manly man thing and toughed it out for 8-9 days. After prooving my manhood, I went to the doctor and got 2 meds which took another 3-4 days to work. Rough stuff. I was about 49% sick. Hope you will recover soon & no you don't need to give me an excuse about the BB game.
I did talk to a supplier yesterday about purchasing some solvent to bring to the game & see if if will work on the ORANGE glue that seems to hold so many rears fixed to their seats!!
That is another good excuse for the South Carolina game. Why don't UT fans come in from the cold for a change?
On another SPS devoted to complaining about how the TBA or TALL did it to me again, one of the posters actually mentions that he had not seen a game in 10 years, but implies anyway that the frisking must be terrible!! I guess he missed Sept. 11.
It amazes me that some of the UT fans who wanted their Uncle Jerry gone & worked at it on the radio(they are not confined to this board) will not even go to support a team & coach that is short-handed, but giving what appears to me to me 100% effort! To see Buzz on all fours on the sidelines is a thing of beauty. Buzz is no fake, but I do wonder about a large segment of the VOL nation that can sit back and rip coaches & players, defend themselves as fans, but are too confined to the lazy boy to go and walk 3-4 blocks to support a team that needs their help.
Even Ed Boling, as in Tommy Bol, who has to be in his 80's & looking feeble, was walking in to the MTSU game!
I have seen my DDS's 85-year+ mother going to the games in the BITTER cold(she goes to all of them)!!
I guess UT fans are saving themselves for the NFL playoffs this weekend & don't want to be bothered.
TBA had 6-10 tickets go to waste Monday night.
