With SEC Media days opening today I wanted to get a jump on the competition. Here are my conference predictions. Any opposing views, suggestions, or just plain smart-ass comments are welcomed. Dawgs Bowling?

July 31 2001, 10:30 AM

I detected an error in my Bowl Projections. I left out He-Hate-Me's 8-3 Dawgs. They will renew an old rivalry with Clemson in the Peach Bowl which means JC can pack up the kids and head to Shreveport.

I agree with all of your predictions except for the fact that Florida Will NOT be playing in the NC title game. Spurrier will lose at least one game by shuffling QBs. Their defense last year was also bailed about by causing a lot of turnovers. I don't think they'll have the same rate of success this year. In all honesty, their defense has three guys that could play for me, and that's Lito Sheppard, Todd Johnson and Andra Davis.

I could see a Nebraska vs. Miami title game very easily.

I can take the traditional Gator beating. But if ALL I have to look forward to is the ANNUAL Big 12 bashing in a bowl game I would just as soon pass If that is our fate lets just skip football roll the basketball out to center court.

Schedules are the key

July 31 2001, 2:44 PM

Justin,

I agree that Florida is far from the dominant team of the mid to late 90's but I believe at least one of the Title Game participants will have a loss. That being the case I look for the winner of the FSU @ Florida game to be that team and I look for that to be the Gators. I think that Miami and Oklahoma are stronger than the teams I picked to play for it all but I don't like their schedules. The Hurricanes play @ Penn St, Pitt, Fla St. and Va Tech. I look for them to lose at least two games. The Sooners play in Lincoln (of course they could overcome that by winning the Big-12 Championship game)and I don't like the chances of anyone winning back to back championships.

PV

There is no fate severe or painful enough to make me skip College Football for Basketball (or anything else for that matter).

Beano, UT will not go 10-1!!!!!!

July 31 2001, 3:56 PM

I just don't see it as long as Colonel Samders is in the mix. What did UT do last year to make you think they will be that good? The window of opportunity of beating UF will be over after this year or next. UF will be loaded to bear the next two years and that is bad news for HH.

Beano, I'm going to hold off until

July 31 2001, 8:59 PM

the end of two-a-days to give my prediction, but I look forward to responding at that time. There are just to many varibles (injuries; impact redshirts or true frosh, ect) that can come into play between now & the start of the season.

Beano, unlike myself at times, you seem to really study before commenting on your subject matter. However, by quickly glancing at your predictions I'm suprised you have Arkansas with so few SEC wins. Is it their lack of a passing game & everyone loading up to stop Cobb? Do they lose more on defense than I was expecting? I know after their debacle here in Neyland they did come back to beat two pretty decent teams in LSU & MSU. In fact, I'm not so sure I wouldn't put our game in Fayetteville near the top of difficult games on our difficult schedule.

Also, & this may sound silly, I think Vandy may get more than one SEC win this season, but right off hand, I can't tell you who it will be. I do think the 'Dores will be improved.

Finally, I'm leaning with Philly in thinking 10-1 may be a little steep for us. Even if we play well against Ga, LSU, & ND, that still leaves us vunerable for letdowns @ Ark & Ala. As of now I'm teetering on 9-2 or 8-3.

I see the SEC this way in 2001.

East Record Loss SEC Record
Florida 10-1 @LSU 7-1
Tennessee 10-1 @Florida 7-1
S. Car 8-3 @MSU, @UT, Flo 5-3
Georgia 8-3 S Car, @ UT, Flor, @Ga Tech 5-3
Vandy 4-7 Bama, @Ole Miss, Aub, Geo, Flor, Tenn 2-6
KY 1-10 Lose to all but Ball State 0-8

West
Miss St. 10-1 @ Florida 7-1
LSU 9-2 @UT, @MSU 6-2
Bama 5-6 UCLA, S. Miss, S Car, UT, LSU, MSU 4-4
Ole JC 6-5 @ Aub, Bama, @LSU, GA, @MSU
Aub 4-7 @LSU, @Syr, Miss St., Florida, @Ark, @ Ga, Bama
Ark 4-7 Win all out of conference and beat Aub 1-7

Florida beats Miss St. 34-31 in SEC Champ.
Florida will not play for the National Champ, and I predict UT should go 10-1, but it could be as bad as 8-3.

We will play on a New Years Day Bowl, but I don't predict bowls, just reg season.

When Are We Going To Beat Florida?????

Prudent disclaimer, Carter...

July 31 2001, 10:28 PM

... but I'd say that the waterboy is more crucial to the Big Whi, er, I mean Big Orange's success than the TE (considering the last five years).

Seriously, I am going to give my preliminary predictions for UT and UNC, with one caveat: I might change my final predictions plus/minus one game, pending the completion of two-a-days. After that weasley qualification or possible addendum, here are my predictions for ONLY UT And Carolina:

Tennnessee finishes 9-2, with losses at Florida and at home against the Dawgs. I might change that second loss, however. I might might pick ND at home against UT instead.

North Carolina finishes 6-6, with losses on the road against Oklahoma, Texas, at home against Florida St., on the road against N.C. State, on the road against Clemson, and on the road against Ga.Tech.

Bowl predictions: Who knows? If My Heels finish 6-6, there is no bowl, of course. The Vols win against a Big 10 team, but lose against a Big 12 team. So the final result for UT will be 10-2 or 9-3, in case I lost anybody along the way.

Thanks for indulging me, Beano. I know this was supposed to be a thread dedicated for UT and SEC predictions.

Beano...

July 31 2001, 10:45 PM

I agree with you that Florida isn't nearly as strong as they were in the mid 90s. I see three teams with relatively easy roads to the championship games...Nebraska, Virginia Tech and Texas. Neb gets Notre Dame, Oklahoma and KState at home. Texas plays OU in Dallas and goes to A&M. VT plays nobody until Miami at home at the end of their season. I think these three teams could go undefeated.

Florida just doesn't impress me that much. Yes, they beat UT like a drum, but that's the climax of their season. After the UT game, they fall back to the pack, and they have found ways the last two years to lose to inferior teams( Miss St. and Alabama). I see them losing at least one game, with two games not out of the stretch of the imagination. If Spurrier makes a big deal of this QB situation, they'll lose two games for sure. Also, if they get Miss. St. in the Georgia Dome, I can see the Gators losing that game as well.

My 2 Cents Worth

July 31 2001, 10:49 PM

I believe you guys have a pretty good handle on the SEC competition but I do not believe Fl will finish as you say.I see them with two or more losses due mainly to defensive problems along with shiney pants incredible spin he puts his QB's through.
Once again it will be 10 and 1 for UT with the loss being after the Fl game due to losing a game we should have won.And thats IF we roll through Syracuse, handle a hostile Hog team and go down to Fl on a roll with an attitude to kick some gator ass.If we do not handle the hogs or the gators, the season will be dismal.Posibly 7-4.
My inexperience with the rest of the SEC would make an attempt at listing the whole scope futile.

Cobbs injured a knee early last year and is ready to go for this year. Fred Talley, Arkansas' best back last year, also injured his knee and has recovered in time for the season. Their starting QB hasn't thrown a pass all Summer due to a sore shoulder.

UT is 14 points better than Arkansas this year, even with the game in Fayetteville. If HH loses this one, the season will be shot.

One plus One

August 1 2001, 10:38 AM

Brocky,

My Orange Heart (with the exception of 98) usually blurs my vision at this time of the year. The successful formula is probably Beano + 1 (If I pick them to lose one look for two etc etc). My feeling has been that Tennessee will not lose in the regular season after game three. That probably is a reach since there are five losable games (LSU, GA, @Bama, S. Car. @ND) from that point, two of which are on the road versus traditional powers. If I were a handicapper in Vegas I would set the over/under for Tennessee losses at 2 ½, which would probably generate close to equal play on both sides of the number. One loss is an optimistic expectation for a team playing such a demanding schedule and would be an excellent season coupled with a quality bowl win. I think this team should be EXPECTED to be no worse than 9-2 in the regular season. They SHOULD be unbeaten at home and do NO WORSE than split their four challenging road games (Ark, Fla, Bama, ND). I also expect us to perform like an elite team in a bowl game rather than a homecoming patsy.

I struggled with the Arkansas projection. Houston Nutt’s teams have been terrific at home but IMO their uncertainty at QB, health questions in the running back corps, and a tough early season schedule (UNLV, TN, @Bama, @GA, S. Carolina in the first 6) means a slow start and a difficult recovery. If they beat Tennessee it could be the springboard game to a surprising season. Hog fans can take heart in the fact that I picked Alabama to win the West last year, Auburn to finish 4th and LSU last. I did purchase a new crystal ball for the upcoming season.

Other Responses

August 1 2001, 10:51 AM

Justin,

Great points about Nebraska, Virginia Tech, and Texas, schedule advantages. I picked Nebraska to play for the title even with their questions surrounding finding an I-Back, and defensive shortcomings because of their schedule. Va Tech will have to go undefeated to make the championship game because of strength of schedule issues and I don’t see that happening minus Vick. Mack Brown will have to prove to me that his teams can play at a championship level regardless of schedule advantages.

Deano,

UNC banter is welcome. Any College Football talk regardless of which team it regards beats the hell out of whatever comes in second.

August 1 2001, 11:12 PM

Last year, you had one of the best posts of the year, IMO. It was on Beano's annual prediction thread, like the very one that we're on now.

Now, it's going to be extremely difficult to top yourself this year, since The Stud is not in the hunt & mix like last year. He was one of your chief characters in your legendary post of last year. I don't see how The Stud can be replaced (i.e., Gay Street Bridge jumpin', etc.), but I would never underestimate you in this regard.

Best of luck, Dawg. And take your time... we've got a few weeks until the first kickoff.

Beano,

I agree with you that if Mack Brown can't go undefeated against this schedule with Texas' kind of talent, then he should be run out of town. Remember, he's an even better recruiter than HH. Mack Brown has had Top 4 classes ever since he arrived in Austin.

August 2 2001, 12:14 AM

For one A&M will hold serve at home. They beat the absolute hell out of Kansas St last year in College Station (26-10) & gave Oklahoma their toughest test of the season actually leading by 3 TDs in that game only to lose in the final minutes. A&M will lose to some teams it has no business losing to but they can win a big home game. Sloccum's record at home is brilliant. Missouri will have a decent club this year they could jump up and get Texas. If OU's defense can force turnovers & run the ball effectively on offense then the Sooners will beat the horns. Stoops vs. Mack Brown is worse than shiny pants vs. FGP.

2 of these 4 teams will play for the title.
Miami, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon

Step up or Step off

August 14 2001, 3:51 PM

I wanted to take this opportunity to remind those of you who have yet to make your predictions, and those with revisions to make, that Aug 31 is the deadline as well as defend my season’s prediction for those alleging I am a crack smoker (are you lurking John Gotti of Hotty Toddy?).

I have a good feeling about this years team. I’m a big proponent of the importance of quality senior leadership which I think was somewhat lacking in last years team due to an inordinate amount of early defections the year before. Henderson, Weary, Overstreet, Lott and Bartholomew IMO will prove to be the heart and soul of this team. I think we are much more battle tested in the O-Line and our D-Line has a chance to be as good as any in the country.

I also strongly believe that our QB and linebacker play will far exceed expectations. I think we will employ a running back by committee plan that will be effective. We have talented wide receivers if our coaching staff finds ways to get them involved.

I’ll answer Phil’s question before it arises. YES I know we have the same staff. I think however that much like Joe Paterno, Fulmer’s teams need an experienced, tush-hog O-Line to overcome the staff’s lack of offensive innovation. Barring injury we have that luxury this year. I still have major concerns with our secondary but I’m not sure anyone on our schedule other than Florida throws it well enough to exploit it.

JC,

Get your picks in for both UT and your Ole Miss Rebels. It’s your chance to prove I’m dreaming. Don’t lay low and say, “I told you so” in December. If it ain’t documented, it never happened.

Here are the updated predictions:

OSVF-13-0 NC (Rose Bowl win over Texas)
Badbob-13-0 NC
Carter-13-0
Beano- 11-1 (Fla) (Sugar Bowl win over Okla)
TBA- 11-1 (No specifics available)
Bryan- 10-1 (Fla) (No Bowl Prediction)
MP-10-2 (Fla, ND) (Bowl win over Mich or Ohio St)
Deano-10-2 or 9-3 (Fla, Ga) (Win vs Big-10 lose to Big 12) (UNC 6-6)
Justin- 9-2 (Fla, ND) (No Bowl Prediction)
Phil-9-2 (Fla, ND) (No Bowl Prediction)

Amendended prognostications...

August 24 2001, 11:09 AM

Since my season kicks off tomorrow, with my Heels going up against last year's MNC champs, Oklahoma, I am obligated to tweak my 7/31 predictions. And they are:

UT goes 10-1, with a loss at the Swamp. I stick by my original predictions about the Vols' outcome in bowl games (a loss vs. Big 12, and a win vs. Big 10).

UNC goes 6-6, with no bowl game, of course. If my boys go 7-5 with their BRUTAL schedule, it will be a minor miracle, IMO. First year HC, first year coordinators, and lack of depth at certain postitions make for many question marks this year. But I am cautiously optimistic.

and for more detailed info, go to tarheelblue.com (I'll try to provide a link), and then then click on "Athletic Programs". After that, click on "Why Tar Heels?".

There is no question Gen. Lee said it -- he loved the boys from the Old North State. There has been, however, slight disagreement over when he said it. The best evidence by far is the one concerning the Petersburg battles of 1864 (not the seige of Petersburg in 1865).

And yes, we'll show up, bad one. The three year Torbush experiment is over. A lot of things deteriorated under Carl, and John Bunting, the new HC, has breathed new life back into the program. I won't get into specifics, because I have to run, but I predict my Heels will represent tomorrow nite!!

3. IT WILL FINALLY DAWN ON HE-HATE-ME(IDIOT) THAT THE XFL WENT BELLY UP SEVERAL MONTHS AGO (THUS MAKING HIS MONIKER POINTLESS) AND HE WILL CHANGE HIS HANDLE TO: IMA-JAGAW-REDNECK.

4. TONY BASILIO(IDIOT) WILL TAKE AT LEAST 25 SICK DAYS OFF BEFORE THE ROSE BOWL. AND HE WILL START HIS ANNUAL "UT WILL BEAT UF THIS YEAR" PREDICTION IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE VOLS BLOW ANOTHER ONE IN THE SWAMP ON SEPT. 15.

You're funny

August 28 2001, 9:43 AM

I can't believe how witty, inventive, and creative you are. I also was blown away by your question on another thread, "would a bird feel challenged?" refering to JC and Top Dog. This is great art that deserves to be showcased.

I know that being in the South, you are a big fan of incest. I promise, however, that I have never entertained such thoughts.

It would actually interest me, if you are capable, to debate you on an actual issue, as I have no idea what you believe on any subject, since you attacked me out of the blue personally.

At least when I rip someone, it's because they write something idiotic here. Everyone pretty much knows my stance on any issue, and most disagree with everything I write.

With you, you just start throwing stuff around. Very clever. Please get some new material, although with your slow Southern roots, I don't expect anything other than "incest" jokes.

I eagerly await a real challenge from you on an actual topic. If you continue this tired line of posting, I will eventually destroy you, as your limited mind is obviously not geared towards long-term survival.

GREYZEN

GO SUCKEYES!

Beano, you can take it to the bank:

August 28 2001, 12:31 PM

The UT Volunteers will conclude the 2001 regular season with a 9-2 record. Though I think we have the talent to go to the Swamp & get a big W, I can't pull the trigger and predict victory against Stevie & the Mighty Gators until PF & Co prove they're up to the task.

As for the 2nd loss? I can't pinpoint the culprit quite yet but I think the schedule's too tough for us to finish 10-1. I've been worried about Ark, but with their QB problem UT ought to stop the run well enough to win that game. I think we'll get payback against UGA & LSU. Therefore, either Bama or ND will provide our 2nd day of misery. My hunch is it will be ND. We do play the Domers in November & if the temp gets below 40, will the Vols (esp. Clausen) respond as well as they did in Dallas last January? That's what I'm afraid of.

Bowl Scenario:

UT will defeat a team from the Big 10, PAC 10, Big East, or ACC. Unfortunately, if the opponent's from the Big 12, expect a loss.

Here goes.

August 28 2001, 5:20 PM

UT will lose at Florida, and at home to LSU, South Carolina, and Memphis. They won't deserve a bowl bid, so I'm not going to speculate on that scenario.

The reason for the stumbles, will be their lack of pass defense, and the lack of a solid running game.

Defensively, UT may have one of the best front sevens in the country (although Overstreet has yet to do anything, and honestly put, disappears when it matters). The secondary however, will be one of the worst in recent memory, making UT fans long for the days of Austin, Fair, etc. Henderson will be a one-man wrecking crew early in the year, but will fade, as teams will simply scheme around him. UK and Vandy are the exception (obviously).

Offensively, as far as the running game, no one will step to the front over Stevens, who won't be able to be a 30-35 carry a game back. Teams will load up, and tee off on Claussen, who won't be protected as well as is being predicted by optimistic Vol faithful.

UT will average between 24-28 points a game. The highs will come against teams like UK, Syracuse, and even ND. In other words, the teams lacking speed. USC, Memphis, LSU, and Florida will defensively stymie UT, especially in the red zone, and UT will struggle to score even 1 TD against especially USC and Memphis. Let's not forget that LSU now has the former defensive coordinater from Southern Miss - a team that drove UT nuts a few years back.

UT's recievers will be slightly better than average, but I picture a lot of dropped balls on the numbers. If they can catch, they will have some opportunities for huge gains after the catch. That is, if Claussen has long enough to hit them.

Speaking of Claussen, he will be better than last year against KSU, but will level off from the winning streak of last year, as the overall competition he faces will be better than the UKs and Vandys of the world. Teams he did face last year like USC will also be better defensively.

To sum up, a disappointing 7-4. However, fans will be excited over wins at Bama, and ND, two teams who are far below UT in the talent department.

Fulmer will fire at least two assistant coaches after the season, and will continue to escape the blame he deserves for his assistants' poor decisions, which he could override.

Greyzen,

I enjoy and welcome your input to the threads that I originate. The conversation has always been civil and thought provoking. My intention was to stop any nonsense before the thread got off course. Idiot Detector indeed threw the first cheap shot and you counter punched. I have no problem with that. I would appreciate if round two was taken to another arena such as a thread originated by either of the combatants. Entitle it “Bullshit in the Pit”.

Thanks for your prediction and well thought out breakdown of the season. Tell the truth, don’t you miss the fall in an area of the country where the passion for College Football is unmatched?

Beano,

August 28 2001, 6:41 PM

Graymouse, the outsider, will urinate on anyone's thread. That "he started it bull" is just cover for a third-grade poster who needs to be slapped in the face by other senior members of this board for such behavior. I am sorry he tries to urinate on your thread as well as any newcomer such as the OSU poster Benny. Hopefully, this board is migrating away from the style of SnoopPup & Graymouse, the outsider & more toward your style.

Graymouse, the outsider, you are free to start threads about other posters rather than urinating on a thread that Beano or anyone else started in good faith. Start your own threads & watch them drop!! I guess we with see how brilliant & classy you are on those.

Beano,

Back from the dead.

August 30 2001, 1:18 PM

Beano--My new job has been keeping me busy traveling aroung the country and I havent been able to even check in on the board until now. I hate that I missed out on the BASEBALL banter this yr with you and fellow Tiger lover C.D. Nevertheless, with Football season on us, I had to check in and make my predictions for the upcoming season. For what it's worth--- SYRACUSE-A psyched up Tennessee team beats a less talented team from the BIG EAST by two touchdowns. ARKANSAS--A hyped up bunch of Hogs playing in newly expanded stadium in front of 72,000 screaming SOOO-EEE's keeps it close. Vols win. FLORIDA--I keep thinking that Florida is not as good as most people think and that we can take them in the swamp for a change. God knows we're due, but logic says no. Vols lose another heartbreaker. LSU--Vols have two weeks to get ready for Bayou Bengels and will need every second of it. LSU in mild upset. GEORGIA--Pissed off Big Orange gets revenge on Dogs in a large way. Another two weeks to get ready for Tide. ALABAMA-- Time spent wisely. Winning streak continues. SOUTH CAROLINA--After war in Tuscaloosa, Vols get caught looking ahead to South Bend. Gamecocks surprise Big Orange faithful by winning at Neyland. NOTRE DAME--Same slow ass team that got pounded by Oregon State 41-9 in Fiesta Bowl last year. Irish mystique means nothing to these young kids. Vols make statement. MEMPHIS--Closer than N.D. game. Vols win a war. KEN-SUCK-Y--If everyone on offense is healthy after aforementioned big games, Vols hang 80 on these losers. VANDERBILT--Close once again for Commodores, but no cigar. Vols win. REGULAR SEASON -- 8-3. BOWL GAME--Sorry, no BCS this year. Off to Disneyworld to take on an underachieving Michigan team in the Citrus. Unlike 3 of the last 4 years, the Big Orange DOES NOT QUIT!!!Fulmer learns that it takes more than a week of prep time for a Bowl Game against a good team. Weather is warm and to Clausens' liking. Vols win in one of the best Bowl games of the year. FINAL RECORD---9-3. Tennessee finishes in top 10-----barely. Too many question in secondary and at key offensive positions (including quarterback) and too tough a schedule to compete for national championship. For what it's worth. Glad to be back.

Since when have you guys been shy to answer a challenge. I'm callin you out. Have you no guts? No pride? No access to a computer? I want your picks and I want them now or somebody's gonna get their ass whooped.

Beano....my predictions

August 31 2001, 8:43 AM

Syracuse - We struggle with the runnig game early, but in the 2nd half we open the offense up by throwing the ball. Travis, Cedric, Jabari, all get carries...Whitten catches 4 passes. UT 24 SU 10

Arkansas - We'll play bad in the 1st half. Ark will have somethig to prove, and will run it on us early. Houston, while trying to prove something to the hometown fans, will fumble setting up 1 score. Our depth, and their lack of an offense will catch up with them in the 2nd half. Our secondary will have 3 picks, Haynesworth will have 2 sacks. Big night for Robert Peace. UT 34 Ark 17

Florida - We are clicking. We open up the game with 3 wides, to set up the run. Whitten is a key also. Defense will bend, but won't give up as many big plays this year. Florida makes a tremendous comeback, but THEY fall short. Battle makes himself famous....OL is coming around as Herrera replaces Offy at RT....Houston seeing more and more reps. UT 28 UF 23

LSU - after a week off, the offense is ragged again. Defense is dominating though. Lott has a pick, Henderson 2 sacks, KW 7 catches. We will see this team again I think...UT 24 LSU 20

UGA - coming out party...we are peaking. We dominate from the start, and never let up. TopDog is found in a drunk stupor at Volunteer Landing crying..."Why?...oh dear God, why?"
UT 38 UGA 10

Bama - they have played for 7 straight weeks, and they are beat up. We are a focused group. We get some.
UT 28 Bama 10

USC - we kick Granny's ass all day long. We are peaking again. UT 30 USC 16

ND - they will have played for 8 straight weeks, they'll be beat up by the time we play them. Home crowd keeps them in it for a while, but our speed kills. UT 35 ND 20

Memphis - Fat Albert makes his return to Knoxville, except this time Logan Young is nowhere in sight. UT in a laugher. UT 42 Mem 14

UK - Big Blue is on the edge of his seat, but his D sucks, and the Vols are a runaway train. UT 40 UK 20

Vandy - This game is brutal. It's about 27 degrees, noone wants to play this one, and Vandy sucks. UT 20 VU 0

SECC - versus LSU. LSU has already peaked, they won the West by default. UT wins easily. UT 38 LSU 20

Rose Bowl - versus Texas. Williams and Johnson KILL our secondary, and Chris Simms shows why he won the Heisman. Our offense clicks, but our Defense can't stop them. Then Chrissy throws a pick to Battle who runs it the other way to turn the momentum...It's all good after that.

UT 34
TX 31

"Florida - We are clicking. We open up the game with 3 wides, to set up the run."

Just what coaching staff are you expecting to be on our sidelines?

"Whitten is a key also."

Will HH finally wake up after 2 years and decide to keep the TE home to help block a UF de?

"Defense will bend, but won't give up as many big plays this year."

We always give up big plays to UF.

"Florida makes a tremendous comeback, but THEY fall short. UT 28 UF 23"

This has to be one of the biggest rah rah posts I've read in years. Why don't ewe Sheep wait for the Vols to actually string two wins over UF AT HOME before predicting wins in Gainesville. FGP has terribly mishandled this series.

OSVF you wanted my two cents, here it is...

September 1 2001, 9:56 AM

UT beats the 'Cuse by 2 TD's. A good home opening test, but Syracuse has too many issues to compete in Neyland in front of the rowdy crowd.

Arkansas will be weak the Vols blow them out by 20+. Arkansas still rebuilding, but getting stronger.

UT loses on the road in the Swamp. Those darn Gators are just too strong, and as we all know, the Vols are obsessed with beating Spurrier -&- Co. UT loses by 2 TD's. SHOULD HAVE BEAT THEM IN 2000, we really pushed them around but didn't seal the deal.

LSU at Neyland is a real toss up. Depends on how Davey performs in the first couple games. We will still have issues in the Def secondary this year. As we all remember, Davey chewed us up last year thru the air. We will want revenge, but right now I'm leaning toward an LSU win by 1 TD or less.

Georgia -&- South Carolina prove to be tough home games, but they are in Neyland. Vols will be tested by fire when these teams come to town. Both will be wins by 2 TD's or more.

Notre Dame will be a good game. The Irish will want revenge for that miracle come back we put in their faces a few years ago in South Bend. Vols will have too much depth and the Vol D will shut them down. The game will be closer than the score. Vols by 3 TD's.

Alabama is obsessed with beating us, just like we're obsessed with beating Florida. Sorry Tide, no breakthru this year. Vols by 7-10 points.

Kentucky -&- Vandy will line up for that annual ass whipin' again this year. Vols by 4 TD's in each game.

VOLS go 9-2 and finish 2nd in the SEC East to the GAYTORS. Vols get "at large" BCS bid and go to the Sugar Bowl to play the Florida State Semenholes. Vols beat St. Bobby and his merry band of thugs... 27-13, finish 4th in the Final BCS poll with a 10-2 record.

Vols look forward to 2002, with Florida, Alabama, -&- Miami coming to town. Clausen is a Jr. or Washington is a god, the J-train is a So., the offensive line is huge (as usual), and the D is as bad as ever. National Championship run in 2002!

You can say you heard it here first.

Oh yeah, LSU wins the SEC West, and goes on to lose to Florida in the SEC championship game. Not nearly as bad a Auburn last year. :P

Thanks to everyone who chose to participate and to Direct Vol for getting it all rolling on his original “Predictions” thread. I am sorry that last years champ Sheepshears was unavailable to defend his title.

To those who were adamant on the airwaves concerning the mental instability of anyone predicting a successful season for the 2001 Vols yet chose to avoid documenting your visions I leave you with a line from “The Sting” delivered by Doyle Lonigan (Robert Shaw) to Henry Gondorf (Paul Newman) when he feared being shut out at the window of the Horse Race Betting Parlor:

“Not only are ya a cheat; you’re a gutless cheat as well”

Well, it looks like we all made it through tonight without that unexpected blemish...next week will be the watershed game...how many are feeling confident two weeks in?

I am probably the one to blame...

September 9 2001, 6:54 PM

for Top Dawg not making picks this year. I probably put too much pressure on him, recounting his hilarious prediction picks from last year. Even the best smack-talkers/prognosticators feel the burden is too much, I suppose.

I tried to coach him up, but it was in vain. The blame is mine alone...

GREAT PREDICTIONS WOOLHUNTER & O-SKY-MO-RON,...

I SOMEHOW DON'T THINK WE'LL GO 13-0. GREY , SCBEAR, AND I ARE LOOKING THE CLOSEST TO THE NON-BLIND-SHEEP PREDICTIONS.

If not for a brain-fart against GA, I'm right there! When you tee off, don't you get one brain-fart per round...by gentlemen's agreement so to speak?

Be careful what you post!

Reflections:

OSVF, VH, Babbob, Carter, VOLMAN, & TBA are not to be trusted.

14 picked a loss at FL.

bin 99JC & SnooppHatePupp have white streaks up their backs.

At least Graymouse, the outsider, posted his prediction.

I enjoyed this football season!
