A person I have known since I was 6 years old presented the Neyland project to Gus Manning last night! She had his ear and full attention. You see she is his niece!!!!!!!!!! Gus came over to visit the family and check on his brother. Bone digger(my nick name for her) preceded to lay out the NEYLAND PROJECT to her uncle. He seemed very interested in our web site. Who knows she may post here?
You have got to remember Gus is old school IRISH! After much deliberation he proclaimed, "Hell, we can't release our game plan over the jumbotron!" After the laughing stopped and the wise cracks were passed out Gus knew we existed! He also knew we have very good message that really IS VERY CHEAP TO ACCOMPLISH. I was also informed that the Rat has asked about the feasibility of our plans to the UTAD office. I understand that Tony has approached lettermen over certain aspects of the Neyland project. I always had problems visualizing the Maxims Cheer myself, but the statue, jumbotron painting, and the audio/visual presentation sold me on the project. Perhaps we have been effective. Oh yeah! thanks Bone Digger!
That is the best news yet in our work toward making this project a reality.
Your timing on the website couldn't have been better and I appreciate all the work that the SPS members have thrown in on this thing.
I have included the link to the GNP site to John Adams with a hopefull suggestion that he would use the Voltron picture with the letter.
We shall see! I've got my fingers crossed.
BTW/ look for a little red riding hood rendition tomorrow on t-mail.
I appreciate your efforts on this General Neyland Project. Do not sell yourselves short as sincere fans with a worthy ORANGE idea. I also appreciate Brocky, Beano, & others bringing up the subject in a very positive manner on the local airways!
As far as I can tell, General Neyland is the last UT football coach who left on good terms with all the ORANGE Nation!!
Hyams made the comment yesterday to Brocky or someone that perhaps more effort could have been made to bring the General's legacy to the public in the years of Bob Woodruff & before!
I can report that we do indeed have the "buzz" started around the UTAD.I have been getting some serious e-mails from some major players over there.
We should be seeing an article soon in the Tennessean by Chris Low as he interviewed me yesterday and asked for the address to our site.
Also I spoke with the executive sports editor of the senseless and I believe we will get the letter printed Sunday.
Now can one of you artists come up with a likeness of General Neyland done up as a bronze statue in his famous kneeling pose????
I feel like something good has got to come out of all this. Damn, doesn't Chartervol's image give you chills? If it doesn't, maybe you need to move to ESPN.com's chat room. The naysayers and harpies can just get out of the way.
DW was swarmed with calls of honoring tradition and different ways to go about it.Then I switched over to the snooze and once again a lot of discusion on changing the pregame normalities without messing with the band or running through the T.
I've got the feeling something is in the air, and its being talked about in an abstract sort of way. Call it a hunch but even though I have not heard any major news on the GNP, I've got a feeling something soon may break our way.

all of a sudden I am hearing a familiar voice over the airwaves. Yes it was TBA on Dewey's show. I was in Crossville heading back toard Knox. and mine and TBA's boss was in Jamestown. I wondered if the big boss was listening in on his radio and noticed that TBA was not working but on the phone.
Well, i will give you this TBA, everyone seems to be rolling with this idea. With less than two weeks I wonder how much time it would take for these great ideas to take root and stick.
It seems to me that you all should have started the ball rolling sooner than this.
I sincerely hope that it all works out and the ideas that you all began become a reality. My dad often talked very highly of Gen. Neyland and he would be proud to know that the ideas live on.
