| Hi Remo and Haider,
Last year Santa Claus found some money and gave me the Byron CD player. So miracles do exist, a dream came true. The only drawback is the decrease of my hours of sleep to around 5.
I connected the Byron to the DIR input of the Campion, for 'best sonic performance' which I red somewhere in the manual.
This weekend a friend came by and noticed that the output voltage of the Byron is 1.95 V and the input sensitivity of the Campion's DIR input is only 650 mV. He suggested to use Campion's CD input as its input sensitivity is 2 V.
After switching the interlink, I imagine that the sound is somewhat smoother at my usual listening level of about twelve 'o clock. Could it be that the Campion is clipping somewhat at higher frequencies when using the DIR input?
Best regards,
Jurjen |

Hi Jurjen,
Thanks for your message.
The current Campion including you the CD and DIR input has exactly the same input characteristics. I think the manual incorrectly states that they are different which they were but that was a long time ago. I will check if we have included the wrong copy of manual.
Best regards

Hi Remo,
Well you might also check the downloadable Campion manuals on your website while they mention the same difference in input sensitivity...
However, I'm still interested in the issue. For instance, the Alabaster manual states that the input sensitivity is 470 mVrms. Doesn't that give problems with the output voltage of the Byron of 1.95 V?
And might I ask what the actual input sensitivity of the DIR = CD input is?
Best regards,

Hi Jurjen,
You are quite right the manual is the earlier version, we will change it.
The Campion's input sensitivity for the CD and DIR inputs are both 650mV.
650mV input will produce around 33W RMS which equates to +/-18V voltage headroom. Remember the 1.95V from the CD player is its maximum output and not a constant value. When playing music the output is generally at much lower level varied in amplitude and all this have to be within the recording's own headroom. This signal then go through the volume control that further reduces the level to your desired listening level... only at maximum volume level with very loud (close to saturation) recordings would the amplifier sometimes be driven into clipping and this happens to all amplifiers when the input is too high.
I hope that answers your question.
Regards
Remo
