Re: RE: DOKO?

FAX:

Just listened to the track; it's playing a third time through now.

(1) Nice panning choices. I didn't listen through headphones, but if I did, I fear I better do it sitting down.

(2) Nice dialogue (?) between percussive stuff and pads and melodic stuff the whole way through. Neither overwhelms the other, both stay very distinct, nothing mushes together.

(3) Your swells and filters don't seem like swells and filters; they seem organic, almost alive, almost with living personalities that react with the other elements in the tune.

(4) I'm struck by what to my ears sound like eastern or Asian influences. Sometimes one can tell that, for example, a euro did a certain tune, especially by melody lines, or that an Ami has been really influenced by pop music. Is this where Aussies' global position bubbles to the surface? It's so distinct; is it you or Oz or both?

(5) The hyper-industrial touches close to the end are nice, kinda dark-side-of-trip-hoppish factory music samples(?).

(6) One more time with feeling: It would be easy for some of your filtering etc. to sound contrived or transparent. It doesn't. It almost sounds alive.

The only thing I miss -- and that may well be because I haven't heard it enough or haven't listened closely enough or am just too dense -- is a bit of a roadmap for the listener through the tune, something that reminds me where we've been and how things are developing. Motif development or repetition just to give benighted listeners like me a sense of development? It's easy to sound like things are just streaming. Motific cohesion?

But wonderful job, FAX. I like your stuff. I envy you your control over your gear and your ideas.
