OS compatible????

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it necessary to upgrade the OS to the EX, for those who wanted to install a 250 zip in their original 808's? Wouldn't the same apply for an upgrade to the 750 zip? The EX OS was written to format 250 zips, how is it that this same program will format 750's, without a driver upgrade?
