the 305 loves the 808

by Stinky

I've had my 305 for 4+ years and I still love it. It works GREAT with the SP808, just pick a MIDI channel on the 305 (ie 'part select' a channel) then in the MIDI options menu on the SP808 select the same channel. The other thing you have to do is to set what note pad #1 responds to, the 808 is so cool that you can change the note value while the menu is open. I put tape on the 305 to mark which notes are which pads. It would be cool if you could use the numbers already silkscreened on the 305 (the step editing numbers) but the SP808 also uses the black keys.

Anyway, with the jx-305 I get velocity sensitivity on the SP808 and they both respond to MMC (start and stop commands).

The more I see other sequencers in action the more I love my jx-305. The sounds on it are just a 7/10, its snares are WAY too hot, but all the sounds can be tweaked into submission.

The jx-305 is an MC-505 without a d-beam controller (you could route the d-beam from the sp-808 back to the jx-305 whooohoo!!) but the 305 has a keyboard. The mc-505 is much easier to find.

There's a similar question right below this one, I'll hit that one next.

Any questions, post, I don't check here much anymore, but the ads seem to have chilled out... I'll be back.
