How do you cleanup / bump up the signal ?

I connect all of my peripherals (Drums, synths etc.. )through my (behringer) mixer straight into the 808 to sample. The problem is the sound is weak (I've tried everything) and there always seem to be quite a bit of "noise" in the background. Anyone have a fix for this. Perhaps a pre amp or an amp from the mixer into the 808 ?
