Easy... And not so easy

by John Westwood

Welcome aboard Rob!

In answer to your first question, it should be realtively easy. If you have one unit with the new OS already, there should be something in the System/Utility that allows you to put this all onto a Zip disk? And from there, the Zip goes into an older unit and simply find the System setting to 'upload new OS' or something like that? I believe many here with older units were going into music stores with their own Zip disks and getting the new OS that way? I believe mine was a .MID file on a floppy I had to 'play into' the 808 MIDI, but it worked great.

OP-1, yes a joke indeed! When I bought my unit 6 years ago, I got the board for $75CDN. I told curious people hear it should be around that price as well. Everyone thought I was smokin' crack cause they checked and it was $250 or so US? I got my bill out, and yep - $75 from this store in Toronto called Steve's. So a few members called them up to order one, and were told $275CDN or some God awful amount? They said 'but this dude got his for $75 a few months ago' - and they responded 'Oh that's true - that was our 'introductory price' for a bit. I've heard of 'discounts' - but 75% off??? So I shant complain! But I guess you're going to have to pay that price - I kept checking with stores and Rolands after the EX came out to see if they'd be sweet again. They just won't budge now.

750MB Zip Drive I don't think works in the 808? Or it's that you can't get a SCSI one to do back ups and such? But I think a member here said the 750's are all USB only now? No ATAPI or whatever they're called - which the 808 uses? I'd love to get a 750 as well, but then I'd have to replace my 250MB SCSI to my lappy with another USB drive as well.

So that's how she goes.
