Drive failure ! Urgent help required !!!

my machine has recently had a problem where the drive began wiping disks. It started making a funny noise one day and then it started to happen. I have acquired a new drive but it doesn't sseem to work. I have also tried hooking up a parralel port zip drive to the expansion board but this doesn't appear to work either. Please help !!
