If I recall correctly, the EX software will read the 100 MB drive just fine, you just don't have the extra memory. Back in the day, when people first started upgrading, one generally did it by saving the EX operating system onto a 100 Zip disk from an EX, then loading it into the SP Classic. Only then did people start adding the 250 Zip drive (and 750 later).
