question - does your 808 work without a zip disk inserted? I mean can you use the fx functions, listen to sounds coming thru the inputs?

if so, it seems your operating system is okay and the problem is likely to be your zip drive - some do die in time.
it is easy to replace, no harder than replacing a CD drive in your PC.
