I appreciate the input!

Suspecting a bent needle previously, I checked it under magnification - sadly, that wasn't the cause. The needle was fine.

I have wondered about filtering/straining the paint to assure that I have the finest particles of pigment. Really hate the idea of having to take this extra step in paint preparation, but it may be my only solution.
