i read bob's excellent article on building a late Tiger I in Fine Scale Modeler, and have tried the techinique he describes both here and in that article.

it works absolutely perfectly, so i highly recommend you try this technique.

as an addition to what bob said, you can try mixing static grass or dried herbs like dill weed to simulate ground up turf and grass that sometimes gets caked on armor into the gel medium.
