Hairspray technique questions

Hi All

I've tried the hairspray weathering technique and am a convert, but have a couple of quick questions.

How long can I leave the hairspray on for? A paint job i'm about to do will need several colours over the hair spray, and likely take a day or 2 before I get to put a wet brush to it to weather it. What effect will this have?

Secondly, how resilient is hair spray to having tamiya masking tape applied over it? I need to do a small area in a straight edged differnt colour but am concerned peeling the tape will take paint and hairspray with it.
Any comments?

Thanks.
