Laser printer decals?

I was thinking about a new project last night (1/72 US Navy jeep) but I need some simple black serial numbers. I could custom order them but I was thinking it would be easier to print some myself since they will be in black only. I have an HP LaserJet 1018 that can do 600dpi, so I think it should be sharp enough. My question is about the paper. Can any kind of clear decal sheet be used or do they have to be designed for laser printers? Searching the internet I found some clear decal film from Expert's Choice/Bare Metal Foil. However they are not readily available where I live. I do have some ancient Microscale clear decals and Techmod is easy to find. I am afraid the high temperatures could melt the decal sheet inside the printer. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Jeff
