What's the temperature and humidity like where you're working?

If it's gone on clear but dried with a patchy milky film, it may be indicative of "blooming" where condensation on the freshly painted surface may cause such an effect. Is the milkiness on the surface or through the depth of the clear coat?

You may be able to fix this by hitting it with another coat of clear gloss, but this isn't always guaranteed, depending on the situation. You may try a little clear gloss on an inconspicuous area and if it does work, continue and clear coat the rest.
