Response to Rusty tracks

Germans used a high alloy steel when manufacturing tracks. This alloy contained a high percentage of manganese which gives the track links a slightly yellowish color. This alloy also contained nickel and molybdenum, essentially making this a "rostfrei" or stainless steel. Some very light surface oxidation might be present, making the steel appear yellowish-brown; but, not covered with the layer of rust most modelers are wont to simulate. Plus. soil that the vehicle drives through, on or in acts as an abrasive, removing any oxidation from the links.
