What color for chipping?

I am going to try my first attempt at chipping paint. What color do you use for the bare rusty metal color? I think I am going to try the sponge way of doing it on some edges and and wear place. I thought after I did the chipping I would use a graphite pencile on the places that keep getting worn. Thanks.
