Flat or varnish?please help

AM at the painting stage of my jagdpanther,just finished the dark yellow tamiyas xf60.But before i do the camo sceme should i use some sort of varnish or leave it flat.The pictures that i have dont seem to show what type of paint finish the germans used.if some one could point me in the right direction then i can get going again.The model am doing is a jagdpanther in france 1944 1/25 scale.many thanks karl.
