Thoughts from a long time player... (long post)

Well, being a long time player and also a friend of Eli's, I feel I should defend the infamous "Dead Man's Walk" a bit. Have you ever wondered why paintball is so much fun? Sure, there's the whole war bit, although we are trying to be more "politically correct" these days you must admit that it adds to the excitement. There's the competitiveness, all the fun of tag and capture the flag and you know who hit whom. Simply, running around outdoors with buddies, it's all great. But, I would just like to add one more element that I feel adds quite a bit to the game... The lack of rules. All the rules are barebones safety stuff. (By the way, I am currently working as a ref at Close Encounters paintball park in Southern California, www.usapaintball.com) This simple bit is what makes our game so dynamic. So many things can happen in a game. And to keep the game dynamic sometimes we have to allow for moves such as the "Dead Man's Walk". As long as the rules are explained clearly, I feel that this move should be legal. Preferrably I would not like to see it used against the first time players, but veterans should definately pick up on this one. Also, there are a few other "dark tactics" that us old dogs employ... Running with the other team. This one is pretty clear cut and requires a bit of acting and should definately be legal as long as there's no armband pulling involved. The lack of attention that would allow an opponent to trick somebody into believing that that player is their own is asking to be shot. Another move that I have only really discussing with Eli and is a little move I discovered (as far as I know, though many of you may be using this now) is "quasi-blind fire". This is when you see someone in the distance and you duck back behind your bunker. Then what you do is use the trajectory of your paintballs to shoot from behind the bunker. The other player will be shocked to find that paintballs are coming in and he can't get a visual on the shooter. Makes vets that aren't afraid of getting hit to pause for a good amount of time. Of course this only works when a player had a decent amount of area exposed and you must know how your gun arcs... Well, I think that just about covers it for my post... Tell me what you think about my other two Dark Tactics... Good hunting guys...

P.S. Narangutang, I truly apologize for that unpleasantness that came about due to that Sheridan Hammer dispute. I still haven't taken a look at my PMI 1 and can swear that there's not notch going aroung the bolt, but we'll see... I'm probably wrong. Just wanted to get that out. Have a pleasant evening...
