TVB’s new grand production, Kam Chi Yuk Yip (literally translated Palatial Sins), began production yesterday with its Costume Testing Ceremony in Tseung Kwan O. The star-studded cast came together for the first time to test their images for the series. There were Maggie Cheung, Moses Chan, Bowie Lam, Gigi Lai, Sheren Tang, June Chan, Jade Leung, Charmaine Sheh, Rebecca Chan, Irene Wong, etc.

It is a series about scandals, manipulations, greed, competitions, traps, plots, deaths, to name a few characteristics. In one expression: it's gonna be a nasty fight!

With the actresses outnumbering male actors, this is sure to be a positive opportunity for Bowie Lam and Moses Chan, who appeared to be the only male actors in the series. But nothing is given without its disadvantage; both Bowie and Moses had to shave their heads for this series.

The estimated production cost for Palatial Sins is HK$10,000,000, a rare allowance for any TVB series. It will be filmed in Hengdian (China) and inside Imperial Palace and Forbidden City of Beijing in December. This series is a collaboration with Mainland China’s CCTV, so some Mainland actors are anticipated to appear in the series.

High profile actors in a series may look promising, but it could also foreshadow conflicts behind the camera, are the organizers worried? Executive producer Catherine Tsang Lai Chun said that the actors are mature and wise, they would not mind those expected rumors.

Tsang added, the time frame of Palatial Sins will spread for many years and in it consists four distinct weathers: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Therefore, the series will take time and effort to capture those four different feels. Producer Chik Kei Yi insisted that they must capture the winter snowy scene in Beijing and TVB has agreed to this term. By December, the entire cast would be celebrating the Holidays in Beijing.

Maggie is happy to participate in a drama-type series after doing 3-4 comedies in the last 2 years. This time, her character begins as an innocent noble girl entering the palace and become an imperial servant. Later on, she gets entangled in a sinful scandal that rocks the palace; and to rescue herself she uses underhand plots (with the help of an imperial guard) and eventually became a powerful figure in the palace.

Moses Chan will be playing the imperial guard. Gigi Lai will be playing a nasty concubine. Jade Leung will be playing a tender-heart concubine. Charmaine Sheh will be playing a wealthy candidate hoping to become a concubine. Sheren Tang will be playing the queen.

Maggie said she will work very hard to perfect her performance. When asked how she feels working with her junior, Charmaine Sheh, (who has had a record of conflicts with costars) for the first time, Maggie disregarded the question and said that all the actors are great.

“However,” Maggie said, “I’m really excited to be working with Sheren Tang, I admire her works very much, especially her recent one, Loving You.”

And whether Maggie is worried about rumors? “No, I have experience now, I will be leading a peaceful working environment. There will be no conflicts.”

Maggie is also pleased to work with Moses Chan again, “We’ve had a great time working on Better Halves together. This time I feel more closer to him at this point in the production.”

Will there be any rumors between you and Moses? “No.”
