Pretty crap protest then, wasn't it?

Petrol tax protest falters
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3153716.stm

Hauliers held protests in 2000 over petrol increases
Petrol tax has increased but there were few signs of the mass protest predicted on the roads by activists.
Fuel protest leaders had urged motorists to stop their vehicles for one minute at 0830 BST to make a stand against Wednesday's increase of 1.28p per litre.

But motoring organisations reported there had been "no sign" of any protest.

Funny that the protest wasn't news to the BBC leading up to the protest.

But their intrepid journalists finally managed to discover all about it in time to report the poor response.

Now, if the BBC journalists couldn't find out about it:

How can you expect the general public to stand a chance of demonstrating their support, or lack of it.

So what does the result actually show?

Only that the Beeb is anti-motorist.

But we knew that anyway.

That is not quite correct.

The BBC actually did do a good segment the night before the planned protest on Newsnight - featuring interviews with old hands such as David Handley, Brynle Williams (the more sensible one who is now, incidentally, a Tory member of the Welsh Assembly) and Paul...(forgotten his surname).

And I only heard about the protest prior to that via a BBC Ceefax page.

Paul Spence? Is that he?
The man's is a buffoon. I met him briefly on the last protest and he is far too impatient. The first I heard of the 'engines off' protest was the night before, not really sufficient to organise a good crowd to join in..

The best and only protest you can make is to stop patronising gasoline stns., instead, get your derv/28 sec heating oil from http://www.cplpetroleum.co.uk/ at 17p + 5% tax.

On second thoughts, don't bother, carry on moaning and paying up, because if y'all took my advice, kerosene would soon be taxed at the same rate as diesel.

You mean Andrew Spence. It wasn't him it was Paul Ashley.

He was interviewed live in the studio.

Just wanted to add my laughter to this. It was the most lame protest (or "non-protest") I have ever heard of.
