Scams to be removed????

Some 165 speed cameras are likely to be removed under plans to site them only at accident blackspots.

The move follows widespread public criticism of the positioning of the cameras on open road where there is no history of accidents but where motorists are likely to speed.

Under Scottish Executive guidelines, cameras in Scotland will be sited where there have been at least four collisions resulting in death or serious injury or eight collisions involving personal injury within three years. Speed cameras were introduced in Britain nine years ago. There are 5,000, with 500 in Scotland. In 2001, they provided evidence for one million prosecutions.

Their unpopularity has led to attacks on them and in the past half year six cameras north of the border have been damaged beyond repair.

Neil Greig, of the Automobile Association Scotland, said: "The biggest problem is there is not enough transparency as to why cameras are there. When that is addressed, motorists will be a lot happier."

Re: Scams to be removed????

I was thinking of putting smoke alarms in my house. The trouble is there have been no deaths or serious injuries in our house during the last 5 years due to a fire.

I can't justify the alarms in that case. Our neighbour's going to rip his out because his house is not a proven blackspot for fires. He needs to replace the battery and sees it all as a scam set up by Ever Ready to rip you off...........

>"I was thinking of putting smoke alarms in my house. The trouble is there have been no deaths or serious injuries in our house during the last 5 years due to a fire"

Smoke alarms alert you to the fact that smoke is present in the area in which it is located, this gives you the opportunity to evacuate the affected area.
(Everyone knows that)

Unfortunately the warning comes 'After' the 'fire' has started, but at least you are aware and able to escape.
(Again, everyone knows that)

Speed cameras on the other hand carry on regardless completely unaware that a 'multiple fatal pile up' has just occured right below its mounting post.
Two cars both doing 30mph, one driver asleep at the wheel, head on smash, 4 dead, camera still unaware..
The Scam can't detect or prevent accidents, they can't even be aware of them.
(Once more, everyone etc.)

Smoke alarms work.
Scams don't.
(Every one (with any sense) knows that))

I like your post though, funny.

Errrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmm

November 24 2003, 10:54 PM

But smoke alarms don't cause fires, never mind deaths.

However which bit of this don't you understand:

The safest speed for a road is that at, or below, which 85 to 90% of drivers would drive the road in the absence of limits.

The authorities and the anti speed/car lobby complain that up to 85 to 90% of driver exceed many (most?) limits.

Therefore those limits must be much too low.

Therefore to make those roads safer you need to increase their limits.

But the authorities and the anti speed/car lobby want to reduce the speeds on those roads even further from the safest speed by the use of speed cameras.

Which will make them even more dangerous.

But smoke alarms are electrical and some are mains operated. They therefore present a fire risk.

If you start to compare the number of deaths in house fires with all other causes it becomes evident that the number is tiny. There are more deaths caused by the NHS mistakes. More deaths due to accidents in the home.........Now where have I heard that before?

Fines but not points

November 25 2003, 1:13 PM

A good will gesture would be not to penalise drivers going a few miles over the speed limit with points on their liscence.

Charge £100 per offense with no points.

Putting points on the liscence is well over the top, especially for your first offense.

Only start adding points after two convictions.

If the police were more people friendly, you never know they may come to respect speed cameras positioned in the correct place.

wheel.

Re: Fines but not Points

November 25 2003, 3:10 PM

Points for Speeding are automatic, its the law.

But I agree with what you say, in fact I suggested similar penalties to you'rs in my earlier post's.

I believe mine was,
1st. Offence = Caution.
2nd. Offence = £60 Fine.
3rd. Offence = £150 Fine.+ 6 Points.
4th. Offence = x? mths, Ban.

These penalties would be more acceptable to any sensible driver and would reduce the bitterness towards the Police.

The Police have very little to do with 'Scameras' their only CONnection is that their Chief CONstable is part of a Camera Partnership.

Remember, a 'stranger' to any area where 'Blair-Cams' (as they are now being called) can easily 'pick up' enough points in one journey to receive a ban.

And they only have to be travelling at 33mph to do this.

But according to recent press releases, hopefully things 'May' soon be changing.

I actually agree with you but would add the rider that this "concession" doesn't apply if your speed is y m.p.h. over the limit. I would set y at 10 but I'm sure others would dispute this.

The question is would you support cameras were this to be the case? Would Bogush?

If you could read, which you clearly can't, you would know that I would be quite happy having speed cameras snapping drivers doing 30 in a 30 past a school gate at chucking out time.

If you could read, which you clearly can't, you would know that what I, and the other non-brain-dead people here object to is, eg, an improved NSL road having its speed limit cut to 50, and then dropped on the fastest bit to 40 or even 30 with a hidden sign policed by a hidden greed scamera, before going back up to 50 again.

Usually through a village.

Right 'Mush'

It is obvious that you have'nt read all my posts on this site or on the other site I post on.

http://www.weeklygripe.co.uk/a67.asp

If you had then you would be aware that I do 'Not' object to the use of Cameras in the 'Genuine' interest of 'Road Safety',
but, I am totally opposed to the MIS-USE of them by the likes of the Scamships, (and Chief Cons. who Abuse their powers) purely to generate millions of pounds, a huge slice of which 'disappears', and is accounted for by claims of 'untraceable, or emergency vehicles' etc, very fishy, lets face it, Huge amounts of easy money going 'missing' with a very easy 'excuse' for its apparent 'Loss'.
This stinks.
Wonder where the members of the Scam teams spend their holidays, certainly NOT 'Skeggy'.....??

I do NOT condone 'Excessive' Speed, (6mph over the limit)

If my suggestions were to be considered, then YES I would be prepared to accept 'SAFETY-CAMERAS' and I have no doubt at all that any reasonable person, even members of the Anti Car Squad, would welcome them...

The 'Partnerships' must begin to 'Toe the Line' as far as the 'Guidelines' are concerned.

OR,,,I'ts WAR......

Finally whilst I agree with your points on this I would say that 10 mph OTL (if I have interpreted it correctly) would NOT be unacceptable.

Remember, Speed (or rather, 'EXCESSIVE SPEED'?) KILL'S!!!!

A bloke down my local has been calling them that (Blairscams) for ages!

He's got a petition underway to remove the revenue raisers - or at least move them to a proper blackspot!! He talks sense on the subject of motoring, and safety! (Unlike Mr Perfect who never seems to answer any question or alternative point of view in a straightforward manner!)

Everyone round here has signed up to the chap's petition! And I gather the chap's been at it around the county!

Perhaps Mr Annonymous Mr Perfect RoboCOP - or whatever he is can tell us why!

Incidentally - he could let us all know if he accepted my challenge to drive up through Chorley past every scam to Blackpool - or given his trip to Cliteroe - whether or not he had the guts to go though Blackburn en route? If he always drives to the letter of the law like he says he has nothing to fear! But he's always been evasive and a bit rude in all his retorts!

Remember, my friend! - complacency causes accidents NOT SPEEDING AT 1-5 MPH OVER!!

Still - I shall probably meet you professionally and shall look forward to treating you without painkillers!

I don't hink I'm going to drive 200 miles out of my way just to prove you wrong.

However yesterday I did drive around Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Yhey've got lots of cameras on the A6 and A50/A52 around Ashnourne & Leek. I go there often but have never received any correspondance. Then there's the Nottingham Ring road near Bogush's house with digital cameras and the A610 out of Nottingham - all regular haunts of mine - never a pronlem. I probably drive through 100 speed cameras a week always at the correct speed - dead easy.

I also visit perhaps 40 shops and never shoplift - despite the scameras im most of them. But all these cameras are our ro catch criminals.

Re: Scams to be removed????

December 1 2003, 9:16 AM

On my days off - I like to go out for a drive into the countryside. Park up and go for a nice long walk!

Apart from the Notts road - I've driven past tons of cameras with no problem.

But I live in the county of the constantly changing speed limit - and got caught out late at night after a really long, intensely heavy shift - dealing with drunk yobbos, doped up loutsb and NO ASSISTANCE WHATSOEVER FROM MR PLOD! (WHO NO DOUBT THINKS THAT WE MEDICS ARE JUST WHINGING WHEN WE SAY WE ARE THREATEND BY JOE PUBLIC!)

So just cos I got caught out a 4 mph over a brand new limit, by a brand new Gatso, on a road on which the stupid authorities did not sign correctly and which the ABD and my solicitor thinks I can get a refund on the course does not make me or anyone else a criminal!

Agree that shoplifters are criminals - but so are people who fleece out of your money on false pretences by insisting that a 50 mph dual carriage is suddenly dangerous and do not tell you WHY!!

You are such a complacent ass that it is bound to happen to you sooner or later! Except that you will not have the courage to own up and let us know your thoughts on it!

and I take it that you are a rep if you visit lots of shops! Most reps I know drive at excess speed - I've stitched them back together!!

And I bet you use a mobile phone!!

So how come it only warrants £30 fine and no points when it is FAR MORE DANGEROPUS THAN ME DRIVING PAST A GATSO AT 34 MPH FOR ABOUT 10 METRES???

and I KNOW it is dangerous - cos I get umpteen mobile phone RTAs per week and very few caused by just over a speed limit!! I've seen the proof with my OWN eyes - YOU HAVE NOT!

Maybe I am a rep, maybe I'm not. Yes I do use a mobile phone but NEVER whilst driving. Most reps do drive too fast and I wouldn't defend them.

Yes if I ever get into trouble for anything I'll let you know.

A question - I've no doubt you work hard in a stressful job. How do you feel about driving home? Are you always in a fit state? Should your employer provide a taxi if that's the case?

I've known several have accidents when due to work stress they should not be driving. Remember Great Heck?

I'm a Nurse rememember. I do not want to end up like half my patients! If I'm too tired after a shift - snooze in the office!

and I can take the pressure! You get used to the impatients - when people are in pain - they are not best behaviour anyway! That's my training!

Of course I was a bit narked at the NIP (who wouldn't be?) - but at least I got a bit more for my cash and NO penalties this time. But we should get more info on reasoning behind the downgraded speed limit! It does not make sense to anyone living round here - and we should know cos we are the LOCALS!

It's a hard life!!!

"Then there's the Nottingham Ring road near Bogush's house with digital cameras and the A610 out of Nottingham - all regular haunts of mine - never a pronlem. I probably drive through 100 speed cameras a week always at the correct speed - dead easy."

So you're the nutter who slaloms in and out at 40mph cutting up the other nutters keeping to a "safe" 30mph on a dual carriageway then?

Or when you say the "correct speed":

Do you mean that you're the nutter at the front of the traffic jam doing 30mph on a dual carriageway when neither the road, weather, or traffic density conditions warrant it?

"I also visit perhaps 40 shops and never shoplift - despite the scameras im most of them. But all these cameras are our ro catch criminals."

Well spotted.

They don't prosecute you for daring to use a shop to shop in.

They don't prosecute you for picking up an item off the shelves because there is a tiny chance that you might not pay for it.

And even if you walk out without paying they still have to prove your guilt.

And until they do you are innocent.

And even if they do find you guilty, you'll get off with a telling off for a first offence.

And any punishment you do get wil be proportionate to the seriousness of the offense.

And you will be able to plead mitigating circumstances.

Oh, and before you start on about shopliffting killing no one:

a) How many speed camera photos show a wreck, never mind a corpse?

b) The above applies to GBH and even murder.

Just not to motoring.

So thanks for drawing our attention to that illuminating parallel.

Now where have I ever said I would drive in a dangerous manner? This typifies your debating style confrontational and misleading. No there's no need for me to do anything about the other nutters. They soon get caught.

Or when you say the "correct speed":

Do you mean that you're the nutter at the front of the traffic jam doing 30mph on a dual carriageway when neither the road, weather, or traffic density conditions warrant it?

I'll drive at 30m.p.h maximum if that's the limit.

But it was a 40mph dual carriageway on which just about everyone now crawls along at 30mph apart from a few people who slalom in and out of the rest that was being discussed.

So, what speed do you think is the "correct" speed for the ring road now it has SPECs on it?

Or daren't you answer?

So on a 40m.p.h. dual carriageway, I'll drive at a maximum of 40m.p.h. when safe to do so. I'll use the outside lane for overtaking and turning right.

I think the Nottingham ring road has an appropriate speed limit.

I can't see what you're gripe is.

"So on a 40m.p.h. dual carriageway, I'll drive at a maximum of 40m.p.h. when safe to do so."

Excellent.

But what would you have to say about people who clog it up by driving at 30mph when 40 is safe?

"I'll use the outside lane for overtaking and turning right."

Excellent again.

Except, what do you do when when there isn't a right turn, but the traffic diverges?

And what do you do when the traffic turning right is held up, or slows down, and you are clear to go ahead?

"I think the Nottingham ring road has an appropriate speed limit.I can't see what you're gripe is."

Well, I've already pointed out that the official guidelines for setting speeds according to the conditions say that (at least some, if you like) stretches should be 50's and 60's.

And that, according to the authorities, the average speed used to be 45mph, which would indicate, according to the 85% rule, that the safest speed is over 45mph.

And yet you can't now do more than 30 to 35 if youy're lucky, because everyone is afraid of drifting over the limit and losing their license.

Which means that everyone, takes far longer to complete their journeys. And the roads are more congested. And you are subjected to more noice and pollution.

Oh, and the road is more dangerous.

Nothing to gripe about there then, eh?

Hanbo and Lucy know EXACTLY where we're from!!!*

Right - we've been exploring this site on hunt for prat-@rs1ng pretzels! And we've FOUND one!

ANONYMOUS MR PERFECT (also known as Psyschiatrist??? Perfection, DROID, Plaid Cymru and also poses as the "weird one from Wales"!)

Cannot believe your posts, mate. You seem to change your mind a lot too. But then again Lucy's lot did perform THAT op on you and we can quite clearly see where she put your bits and bobs! And that chip she fit you up with...Tsst. Obviously affects both your brain and your driving. Course REAL WOMEN like Lucy and the Penelope Pitstops in the QGD group can trounce you in every department!

Judging from vast number of typos - (and we all make 'em! - but not as many as you do!)- you give us some clues as to your driving skills - as do your posts.

Crikey mate! You change your mind more often than "the respective ones who wear the trousers" at our homes!

Anyway - apart from your rather bizarre retorts to our Lucy and others, let's have a closer look at the Anonymous GEMS:

3rd gear debate: (Response to Lucy)

"Were I stung by a wasp, my concentration would have dropped.... I would slow down concentrate on the road!"

Lucy mentioned that the girl in question had suffered anaphalactic shock resulting from sting in neck!

Well, matey. If you'd been stung by a wasp which had stung you "suddenly and from nowhere" - you would jump pretty sharpish through the sun roof! NEVER MIND "CONCENTRATE ON THE ROAD"

And as for the anaphalactic shock from that kind of sting - that's as close to death as you can come!
(One of us is TOP BRASS A&E!)

Next:

"If you are incapable of driving to a speed limit, then should you be driving?

And

"I pass 100 speed cameras per week at the correct speed - dead easy!"

Are you taking the p1ss here?

Purchase a B2 GPS - set the "overspeed" and then tell us how many times it bleeped! (And for the record we are ADVANCED MOTORING BODS and have been since 17-18 and we've got kids that age now!! So are you a member of the Institute? We can trawl through all member name lists for Notts!! (That is if you claim so.) We deduce you are from that area from some of your ramblings - but we could be wrong!

Now since you are such a MARVELLOUSLY QUALIFIED MOTORIST PERHAPS YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE OUR LITTLE QUIZ!

1. What is the correct attire for pedestrians in winter?
2. What is DRILL for pedestrians at all time?
3. What are the essentials for safe cycling at night?
4. what is the correct lane for a cyclist at a roundabout?
5. What is the legal alcohol limit for a cyclist?
6. and for a motorist?
7. What are the penalties for driving a lawn mower outside your front drive whilst bladdered?
8. Who is responsible for the wearing of seatbelts by a 14 year old?
9. And a 10 year old?
10. What does SLOW really mean?
11. What type of hazards does SLOW warn ypu about?
- on a country NSL road?
- on an urban road?
12. Where would you see "ARAF"?
13. What is the THINKING stopping distance at 40 mph in WET conditions?
14. And stopping distance at 30 in icy conditions?
15. Define HAZARD.
16. When should you use FOG LIGHTS?
17. What might be around the corner if hedges on
country lane appear trimmed?

YO PROF H!

This is gonna be fun!

Lucy - you ae WONDERFUL!

Hayalp!

Dick Dastardly and your sidekick Muttley (aka QGD 2 & 3)

You forgot these gems for our new twazak!

Twazak - get ready!

1. what is meant by "dead ground?"
2. What should you scan for along those country lanes in Brunstromia? (apart from yourself as the weird one there!)
3. What does horse sh1t on the road mean to you?
4. What do you understand by "field of vision?"
5. Why should you be careful if road is full of potholes?

The guys were being far too generous when they allow you 85% as a pass mark. Must be their idea of a Christmas present. We will only allow a passmark of 98%. Think you ought to compose your letter to the DVLA now!

After reading most of his posts I think we can build up a pretty good picture of the life & world of Anonymous.

He’s a rep, Probably for Unigate or Dairy Crest!

He Drives though about 100 Scameras a week and never gets caught, in his company provided, 24v(olt) delivery vehicle.

He NEVER uses the phone while driving, as this causes a drain on the battery and the refrigerator unit goes off!

He is perfect, and deluded!

He thinks Anne Robinson is the greatest living being, after Taffy Brainstorm, and emulates her persona in all aspects of his life, especially when posting his views on websites!

He’s a prize Numpty!

We know what you are getting at with "SLOW"! We've read that book!! Take it you're after the full answer?

Aces again Lucy!

Superb - Mr Sick of So Called Safety!

So he's attempted a reply elsewhere? And the usual evasive garbage that we all got to know and love!

Typical LOSER!

Hi Guys!

To Luke and R2 - well spotted - You'll pass!

To our guys!

So you went for the twazak's braking skills and knowledge! Bet he'll answer your spoofs and manage to get those wrong too! That is - if he's brave enough to have a go!

If we do not receive any evidence - then all your pals on site will know that you are a either a non-driver after all or Ernie in his milk float! Or more than likely - either the weird one in wales or a very close relative to Richard Edgar NOB-BRAINS!

By the way - what are the penalties for driving a milk float whilst suffering from your particular illness? QGD4 is also a doc and recognises certain worrying symptoms! You really need to contact the DVLA asap for your own and other people's good.

Now all our fans from elsewhere know QGD1 lives in Germany. He drives accordingly on their Autobahns.

So Anonymous Perfection/Droid whatever

1. What would be QGD1's shortest stopping distance on a clear unlimited German Autobahn in dry conditions at his usual speed of 135 mph?

2. What are his main dangers when tonning it down that Autobahn with his best mate Harley?

3. On a recent track day QGD4 drove his mega-turbo charged prize possession at speeds of 110 mph (it was wet!!). What was his overall shortest stopping distance at that speed?

4. What can go from 0 to 25 mph in 4 seconds and could it trip a Truvelo?

So our new anonymous friendly, hare brained twazak

- ENJOY!

As someone pointed out on the other channel - our typing is just as fast as our driving!

From what we've seen - we think you suffer from a multiple personality disorder. (Some of your more lucid personae are OK to a point. If they really ARE you! But then since you suffer from this disorder - you would not really know - would you!)

As for the TING road - QGD4&7 - reckon that was "wind-up" on your part - as they reckon the TING is the RING and PING on the Roadside CASH POINTS on Scam Alley! So we'll allow you a Brownie point for that one!

But we still want proof that you know your CODE!

And remember - this T5 NEVER gives up the chase!
