Bernard Manning finally made me smile the other day: as reported by his son at his funeral, a few weeks before he died, in response to a question as to whether he would rather be buried or cremated, Manning Senior replied "Surprise me."
No. See if you can spot the difference between the above humourous remark and Mr Manning's usual "jokes." I know you aren't very bright (which is presumably why you fail to see the distinction and laugh at Mr Manning's "humour"), so here's a clue to make it simple enough even for you: self-deprecation.
You're saying that that joke doesn't have an element of self-deprecation to it!

Excelling yourself in dimness BJ. Yes, it does contain an amusing element of self-deprecation. Which is exactly why it is untypical of Manning's usual puerile rubbish at the expense of women, blacks, gays, in fact anyone except himself. Was that slow and simple enough for you?
Sorry, I should have realised that that would have gone right over your head!
If you hadn't always drowned out the punchline by spluttering indignantly and self-righteously in your right-on trendly-lefty way over what you thought was non-PC puerile rubbish at the expense of women, blacks, gays, you would have spotted that it was in fact aimed at himself.
Was that slow and simple enough for you?

Conversation with you is a truly surreal experience, BJ. Just to summarize, this thread went something like:
FW: Well, Manning finally told an amusing (self-deprecating) joke.
BJ: Isn't that typical of his humour?
FW: No -- most of his jokes are at other peoples' expense.
BJ: But wasn't the joke you related self-deprecating?
FW (very slowly): yes, that's why that one is funny while most of his jokes at other peoples' expense aren't.
BJ (still not getting it): but wasn't the joke you related aimed at himself?
Blimey, BJ. I knew you were slow, but this one really takes the biscuit.
Let's try it even more simply. I find the joke of Manning's that I related amusing because it was at his own expense. I do not find most of his comedy amusing because it is at other peoples' expense. Got it yet?
FW: Well, Manning finally told an amusing (self-deprecating) joke.
BJ: But isn't that typical of his humour?
FW: No. [Patronising opening removed] spot the difference between the above humourous remark and Mr Manning's usual "jokes." [Patronising insult aimed at me removed] ([Patronising insult aimed at me removed] [Patronising insult aimed at Mr Manning's "humour" removed]), [Patronising insult aimed at me removed].
BJ: Wot?
You're saying that that joke doesn't have an element of self-deprecation to it!
[Translation (very slowly): 1) You claim this joke is different. 2) The rest of his jokes are self deprecating. 3)Therefore] You're saying that that joke doesn't have an element of self-deprecation to it!
FW (still not getting it): [Patronising insult aimed at Mr Mann removed][Patronising insult aimed at Mr Manning's humour removed]. [Comment that demonstrates Mr FW entirely misses my point yet again removed]. [Patronising insult aimed at Mr Manning's humour removed]. [Patronising insult aimed at Mr Mann removed].
BJ (very slowly): [Mr FW entirely misses my point yet again]
Blimey, FW. I knew you were slow, but this one really takes the biscuit.
Let's try it even more simply. You're wrong you pre-judging, po-faced PC per[non-gender neutral noun removed].
Got it yet?

The fact that you are a trolling imbecile? Yes, I've got it.
Says the bloke who has to check my forum every couple of hours to see if I have posted.
So that he can throw some abuse at me.
And demonstrate he has lost the argument.
Again.

Make your mind up, BJ. Either not replying for a couple of weeks indicates that it takes me that long to come up with a reply, or responding the same evening indicates that I cannot resist visiting. It can't be both ways.
