Bosses behind Shropshire's hugely unpopular speed cameras have hit back at "flawed information" used by critics to undermine the system.
The county's first fixed speed camera at Bennetts Bank, Wellington, and several mobile cameras provoked a huge public outcry when they started operating in April.
But Heather Mead, communications manager of the West Mercia Safety Camera Partnership, said the criticism was flawed.
She said a recent paper published by the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) and the Slower Speeds Initiative, entitled "Speed Cameras - 10 Criticisms and why they are flawed", showed anti-camera campaigners had got it wrong.
The report cites statistics supporting the claim that cameras are cited on the nation's most dangerous roads and have helped to cut accidents.
