| Tomorrow's Radio 4 "You and Yours" lunchtime programme from 12-30pm to 1.00pm will be focussing on traffic law throughout Tuesday's (27 Jan 04) programme.
They have invited listeners to phone in their manifesto for discussion during tomorrow's show, and claim that these manifestos will be presented to ALL political parties!
This could be a good chance to vent feelings on scams (but if the "BBC Have your Say" is anything to go by - there is some danger that our thoroughly decent views on ridding ourselves of the Bliar may be filtered out!)
Thought I would bring this to your attention anyway folks! |

Just listened to this programme!
David Begg (car hater) was on the prog so you can guess. Gadget has vented feeling on another forum under another alias. (She's one of us! - The "accident one")
Well, some twazaks phoned in saying we should get the on-the spot of £40 as per continent. The on-the-spot/no points as yet is for Johnny Foreigner. Locals have to pay "on the spot" to cop, and get points later!
One twazak extolled the virtues on satellite tracking followed by invoice for use of road. Well, Hanbo will recall from rant on the "gripe" site that there are problems here. BIG BROTHER ONES! Current practice with Truvlo/Forward take photos on CONTINENT is to invite offender to cop shop to view evidence. This is because they had mistress in car at time of offence and this caused more expenses in the divorce courts! Englishmen, of course, do not have the bit of nookie on the side......!! WHO ARE YOU KIDDING! Can you imagine the rumpus in every household when the satellite bill comes throught the door! "You've been seeing that TART!" and "Who IS your **** TOYBOY!" and "DON'T LIE to me! You two timin' speedophile youuuu!" Not to mention of course the very uncomfortable feeling that you are being tagged like criminal. (Soorrrry - forgot! We ARE crims 'cos we DRIVE a CAR!!!!!)
Then there was the "put the car tax and third party insurance on cost of fuel" ERRRRR! We already PAY through the nose for THIS! WHAT is to stop the yobs doing as they do at present and filling up, then doing a RUNNER!
What about those of us who pay fully comp etc? Do we get rebates?
Then we had the "ban us all for the slightest error and make us do retest!" and the "ban powerful cars".
Where do these people live?
Clarkson came in for some stick as he is alleged to have said he needs fast car so that he can overtake the prat@rsers and get home to see his kids. Begg said that many parents went home to NO kids as we had killed them all!!!
As we have said time and time again! THE GREEN CROSS CODE!!! PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TEACHING THIS!!!!
As "gripe" readers will know - we have kids aged 20 (20 and 19 year olds are now IAM) to almost 3 months as collective group. In addition, we have adopted and all of us foster! We take parenting SERIOUSLY and all our kids UNDERSTAND the meaning of NO! NO! NO! They also understand the concept of the GREEN CROSS CODE! ALL are SPEED AWARE from cradle! They USE the school BUS! We do not believe in excessive nannying, nor would we allow any of our kids out on any main road unsupervised unless we were absolutely CONVINCED that they were capable of ensuring their safety and that of a younger child!
WHAT is WRONG with the lentilist mush munchers? Do they not see that road education is for EVERYBODY regardless of feet, or wheels?
We agree with the callers who asked for continual driver education as this is the key to road safety.
Although tests should only compulsory if absolutelu necessary. However, if that Fun Quiz on Men V Women Driving Theory was accurate - most would need a retest!
Cheers!

Hi!
I heard the programme too! Some of the comments made by listeners were as daft as David Begg's!
Paying for car licences and third party insurance via petrol may sound reasonable to some, but have they really thought out the administration costs and potential claims on the third party inusrance?
It will be just more taxation going into the Treasury coffers and not used for the purpose it is supposed to be "curing"!
How will they decide if you have paid enough cover on premiums? The ones who cause the accidents may purchase very little petrol, which means others pay for any accident they may cause! If you have a fully comp policy, you would be paying for other people's insurance besides your own!
There is inherent unfairness in such a scheme. High mileage travellers will be insured either privately or via businesses. Low mileage drivers may cause more accidents because of inexperience. They could also have private comprehensive insurance and end up paying towards yet another stealth tax.
Rural folk may not use their cars much, but may end up paying more because of distances they have to travel.
People come up with this rubbish, and pea-brains like Blair and his ilk think this is representative of public thinking. The idea of placing extra road costs on fuel is plain daft. Tax, insurance dodgers, and serious, dangerous speedsters should be caught by proper policing by real policemen, aided by an intelligent use of existing technology.

I really can't understand you chaps, you moan and whine about UK taxes and yet you keep paying up. The government not only love people like you, the more you moan, the more they take the piss.
Stop writing about the liberties they are taking with you and get up off your asses and do something about it. Taxation is a voluntary labour of love,ie, if you don't wish to pay it, you don't have to, a classic example of this being the TV licence.
If you register a car in your name, of course all the speeding tickets, parking tickets, non payment of road fund licences, etc, etc, are going to come home to roost in the same way as if you work for an employer, that employer is going to confiscate circa 40% of your money on behalf of the government.
The same applies if you buy in retail shops, you will be lucky to get 10 cents on the dollar in terms of value, believe me, if you use your wits, the UK is the cheapest place on earth to live, not only can you live for nothing, you can save on your incapacity/ unemployment benefits whilst enjoying a comfortable lifestyle at your own leisure.
When in Rome------, you know it makes sense so don't delay, start today. | |
