MILLIONS of used car owners could be hit with higher road taxes under new Brussels rules.
The European Commission plans to replace the £38 registration levy on new cars with higher fuel and road taxes.
But motoring organisations warn this would hit less well-off drivers of second-hand cars.
Edmund King, of the RAC Foundation, said: “It will be an extra tax on people on low incomes.”
He fears the Chancellor could use such a shake-up to rake in millions.
Shadow Transport Secretary Damian Green blasted EU “interfering”.
