1 foot and 3" shorter. Dave Bennell - 567th post - 18 Oct 2004 12:01
Hi, Nottingham. I'm back. (Don't all cheer at once). Three days after my last post, I was involved in only my second road traffic accident.

At 8.40pm on a road in Lancashire I was approching a right hand bend at about 40mph in a 50mph limited area.

The road conditions were dry, dusk and I had my lights on. The van traveling in the other direction towards me also had his lights on but was doing 72mph (as established by the police afterwards). The driver of the van failed to negotiate the bend and as a result stuck the offside of my car.

My right foot was trapped under the pedels and I had to be cut free. The car was a write off. In hospital my foot was amputated along with 3" of my right leg.

The only cause of this accident was the van driver doing over 70mph in a 50mph zone. He admitted to the police that he belived 50mph was too slow a limit for this road and as a regular user often ignored the limit. He also reviled that he was a supporter of a well known site that advocates the raising of speed limits.

In court he was fined £2500 and costs + points on his licence. I have a bit of compo to come. I have always believed that speed limits are set for a purpose and to ignor them is asking for trouble.

The nearest speed camera was situated some three quaters of a mile to my rear and I have asked for one to be place on this particular bend. I don't hold much hope as no one has been killed in this spot, yet.

It is only a matter if time. [reply]    [Complain about this post]

By the way, was this reported in the Evening Post? Shame on them for not reporting such a newsworth incident about a local if it wasn't! [reply]    [Complain about this post]

Dave - I'm very sorry to hear of your accident and hope that you make as good a recovery as possible. I hope you take the driver of the van and his insurance company to the cleaners - his arrogant attitude is unbelievable to all decent people. How he didn't get a ban I don't know - he should have and lost his job to a more responsible citizen.

Sadly that site to which you refer still exists but the good news is the local one has been shut down. I assume this to be the case as I can't access it from any computer, I also assume the police have done this as it was blatently promoting the ownership of guns with references to where one may obtain weapons locally.

The webmaster did rear his ugly head once again as "George Green" on this site a week or so back but in view of his history and the shock following Danielle's murder I think the BBC moderators have banned this alias too.

Good to have you back Dave. [reply]    [Complain about this post]

Apologies to one and all. It would appear that the site I slighted has not been shut down. I also accept that my allegations, which some might consider actionable libels, about it having been closed down by the police were totally and utterly false, as were my other allegations which some might consider mendacious and malicious, never mind unfriendly. Oh, and I accept that the webmaster doesn't necessarily have an ugly head, or even face. Thought I plead the right to hold my own opinions on the matter.

I too am very sorry to hear of your plight Dave and reflect all the best wishes and sentiments expressed. Similar happened to my niece who was knocked off her bicycle by an incompetent motorist. Why does it have to happen to the young? - such a waste. Someone like me near the end of their life should be the victims if there have to be any.

George wrote "..... but the good news is the local one has been shut down...."

I assume you refer to the Its your duty site George, a horrid site frequented by nasty gun-toting people. One gentleman, who I fear used to post under the influence of drink or drugs bragged about the guns he owned and from where he got them. It is good news that the police took action against this revolting site as well as the one mentioned on the front page of the Post this evening.

My daughter thinks I should stand clear of all this and it did frighten me when the web-master hacked into our computers and got our personal details but it's only by standing up against nasty people who have guns that we make the world fit for the next generations. I will update you all on the court case involving my niece when I get a chance. In the meantime I must withdraw my nasty comments about the webmaster of the Its your duty site. Whatever would happen to me if he decided to take revenge (legally) about me claiming not just that his site was horrid and revolting, nor that it was frequented by nasty gun-toting people at least one of whom I implied used to post under the influence of drink or drugs and bragged about the guns he owned and from where he got them, but that the site had action taken against it by the police.

Equally, I have been told repeatedly that he could not have hacked into our computers and got our personal details, and accept that spreading such slanders makes me a very, very naughty and silly old girl.

Sorry to hear of your plight Dave and echo George's sentiments. I'm also very sorry to hear of Danielle's murder. Will the good citizens of Nottingham please stand up and be counted. It is only by force in numbers that things can be done. I don't know why there are no speed restrictions on British made cars - why the need to even be able to go 120 mph. I fail to see what impact a speed camera would have on the corner.

Their are very few corners that can be taken at 50 mph.

As you say your self you were at the appropriat speed of 40 mph, 10mph below the posted limit.

I lost very good freind under the lens of a speed camera, they have no effect. [reply]    [Complain about this post]

In the interests of not getting this board bogged down with bogus rubbish again may I suggest that if you want to discuss road safety please visit the "SafeSpeeds" discussion forum (do a web search). There you'll find that the Web-master Mr Smith believes it's safe to drive at 150mph on a public road. [reply]    [Complain about this post]

I sincerly regret posting the following:

"In the interests of not getting this board bogged down with bogus rubbish again may I suggest that if you want to discuss road safety please visit the "SafeSpeeds" discussion forum (do a web search). There you'll find that the Web-master Mr Smith believes it's safe to drive at 150mph on a public road."

I accept that corrupting Mr Mann's first name is racially and religiously insulting. In my defence I can only state that I was led astray by the BBC Moderators who have repeatedly alowed such posts and refused to remove them, claiming that they in no way breach the house rules.

I also accept that I have unreasonably maligned the Safe Speed site. But, again, in my defence: the other nasty man who runs it has never taken legal action against me, or my aliases, never mind banned "us".

Similarly, I have been led astray by the Beeb who permit us to use multiple log ins, even when we forget to change our sign off, or when they have ben told out IP address. They even swear blind that using someone else's screen name, or a clever adaptation of it, is perfectly acceptable if one wants to abuse or racially or religiously insult someone, or spread political propaganda or commercial PR.

So how can anyone expect a simple local lad like me to know any better. I struggle as it is reposting sound bites and spin.

Oh, and was it me who posted something that came from a private email from Mr Mann to a third party? I can't remember now! Now, what have "I" been saying about hacking? Nope, it's gone!

George

Even The Potty Plagiariser Is Back!

October 23 2004, 7:21 PM

re: Do you believe in God? thirdpersonplural - 8th post - 21 Oct 2004 11:17
Eddie,

I'm a member of the National Secular Society - to define things a little further I'm a strong atheist which means I'm without belief in Gods

Let me put a slightly different spin on the question and ask if the concept of God is even important, Does God Matter ?

The question of whether or not some sort of god exists is not one that necessarily occupies my mind. Theists - especially Christians - regularly challenge me with arguments and ideas which supposedly demonstrate that their god definitely exists. But prior to that, there is an even more important issue to address: is a god really important in our lives?

If the existence of a god isn't important, we certainly needn't waste our time debating the issue. It should be expected that theists, and Christians in particular, will quickly say that the question of their god's existence is indeed vitally important. It would not be unusual to find them saying that this question eclipses all other questions which humanity might ask. But the skeptic or nonbeliever should not simply grant them this assumption.

Theists who try to argue that their god is indeed important will naturally support their position by reference to all its supposed characteristics - like perhaps that it offers eternal salvation for humanity.

This seems like a reasonable direction to go, but is nevertheless flawed. Of course they think that their god is important, and of course this is closely related to what they think their god is and what it does.

However, if we accept this line of reasoning, then we are accepting a particular set of characteristics which have not yet been established to be true. It must be remembered that we didn't ask if their god with its supposed characteristics is important. Instead we asked if the existence of any god, generally speaking, was important.

These are very different questions, and theists who have never thought about the existence of a god outside of the sort of god they've been taught to believe in may fail to see the distinction. A skeptic might choose later to grant that if a particular god with certain characteristics exists, then that existence could be important; at that point we could move on to see if there are any good reasons to think that this alleged god exists.

On the other hand, we might also just as easily grant that if a particular elf with certain characteristics exists, then that existence would be important. That, however, begs the question of why we are talking about elves in the first place. Are we just bored? Are we practising our debating skills? In a similar vein, it is justifiable to ask why we are talking about gods in the first place. [reply]    [Complain about this post]

RIGHT TO BUY Agnes McKenzie - 69th post - 11 Oct 2004 13:50
Freda and Moderators:

This man now posting as George Green is a very unpleasant character called Bogush J Mann who the BBC have seen fit to ban from posting under that name. He runs a revolting web-site in which he advocates; drink-drive, higher speed limits, fewer detection measures and more liberal gun controls. On the day of Marian Bate's funeral he wrote a letter to the Post asking for wider ownership of guns. Yesterday, following the horrific murder of a child he rears his ugly head once again.

Please everyone ignore this man! [reply]    [Complain about this post]

re: RIGHT TO BUY George Painter - 46 - 7th post - 23 Oct 2004 20:01
I have decided to learn that English Comp thing the other English teachers used to do and analyse what I posted earlier:

"Freda and Moderators: This man now posting as George Green"

I've no evidence for this.

"is a very unpleasant character called Bogush J Mann"

I am posting a very unfriendly comment here, despite having no evidence for who, or what, he is.

"who the BBC have seen fit to ban from posting under that name."

Again I am talking out of my Agnes here.

"He runs a revolting web-site in which he advocates; drink-drive"

I think that that is what they call a lie, and so a lie-belle.

Oh, there's the "Creative" writer in me coming out again!

"higher speed limits"

Oops, I forgot to mention only where the existing (often inappropriately and arbitrarily lowered) limit is too low. And that he also advocates lowering them where appropriate.

In a nutshell, I am accusing him of wanting sensible appropriate reasonable limits. What a horrid, HORRID Mann!

"fewer detection measures"

As in fewer cameras which cannot detect dangerous driving, or even dangerous speeding, just people creeping over an arbitrary (and usually inappropriately low) number on a stick. Oh, and I forgot to mention that he also wants (lots) more proper traffic police on the roads, instead of them closing down the traffic departments!

To be continued......

Continued.......

"and more liberal gun controls. On the day of Marian Bate's funeral he wrote a letter to the Post asking for wider ownership of guns. Yesterday, following the horrific murder of a child he rears his ugly head once again."

No, sorry, I haven't the faintest idea what I was trying to do by linking all those things together.

And I really, really must stop posting emotional drivel and continually indulging in hysterical shroud-waving when I actually haven't the faintest idea about criminology or firearms controls.

Having said that, even the sillyest bint would have spotted by now the relationship between increasing controls and increasing gun crime.

Even if I can't understand complicated concepts like the fact that in general countries or areas with high legal public gun ownership are safe for the law abiding. Countries or areas with strict firearms controls are unsafe.

I know that he has pointed out that I have been confused by the fact that different countries have different cultures and you have to do a very complicated analysis to get at the truth.

For example in the US you supposedly have a high level of gun crime. But for example the violent, crime ridden "gun capitals" of the States have actually had draconian gun controls (on the law abiding) for a hundred years. Whereas the places with "liberal" (in the true sense) gun controls have very low levels of gun crime and crime in general.

Similarly, though you get violence, gangs and crime in the Japanese community in the States, the levels of gun crime in that community compare with the levels in Japan, which has draconian gun laws, rather than the levels in the States, to whose gun controls they are subject.

Similarly, I know he's tried to explain to me that you can try to draw a superficial comparisons with gun ownership and gun suicides, but this ignores the strong relationship between whether there is a strong Catholic or Protestant culture in the country, and whether it is in a sunny Mediterranean clime, or a dark Northern which makes a nonsense of my silly "statisitics".

But all that is too complicated for me.

So I'll just have to stick to spinning soundbites.

Please everyone ignore this silly wo-man!

No need to worry George, I for one, spotted it was not you straight away.

We really need some new rules and new moderators for this board. [reply]    [Complain about this post]

Profuse apologies, bogush old bean!

I've just realised that when I posted:

"These messages promote gun ownership"

I was potentially libelling you.

And when I said:

"this board now contains material which is potentially libellous."

I was doing it again.

I really must "take legal advice and consider my next steps" before posting, and not after.

What a silly billy I am.

And apologies to the moderators too:

How can I possibly complain about them when they have allowed my outrageous posts, and those of my playmates, whilst consistently refusing poor old bogush even the right of self defence.

I mean, when he complains that people impersonate him and they tell him that people signing up as bogush j mann - 987th post or whatever aren't breaking the house rules you wouldn't just think that they were biased towards me: you'd think they were me!

Anyway, must go and polish my fully detailed scale models of an ambulance and a tram. I drove both professionally you know. Bit of a bother when the emergency wasn't next to the tracks thought!

PS Nice post robert: are you sure you're not in the CID! [reply]    [Complain about this post]

Where've "My" Posts Gone?

October 27 2004, 10:00 PM

All I can see now is:

re: RIGHT TO BUY Agnes McKenzie - 72nd post - 27 Oct 2004 16:15
I'm totally confused here. Why am I quoted in these posts for things I've never said and why is George suddenly changing direction with his well known views about speed limits?

I suspect someone's hacking in to this site.

Moderators are you aware of this? [reply]    [Complain about this post]

George - please don't sign my name after your postings:

"And there I was, thinking I was a teacher of English (Creative, not Comprehension!). Or was I an artist of some kind?

Agnes McKenzie" [reply]
