Police and Government ministers have set out their commitment to deal with all forms of illegal and anti-social use of the roads.

Drink-driving and speeding are among the problems being tackled by a joint approach which aims to make the streets safer for pedestrians and drivers alike.

The Home Office, Department of Transport and Association of Chief Police Officers have set out their road priorities for the year ahead.

A highly visible police presence on the roads will continue, speed cameras will be used at collision blackspots and national drink driving and seat belt campaigns will be launched.

Home Office minister Caroline Flint said:

"Roads policing is an important and valuable part of day-to-day policing. It not only helps reduce deaths and injuries on the roads, but reduces anti-social and criminal misuse of vehicles and provides a reassuring presence to the public."

In fact cameras will take all the benifits of the increase in roads policing-very dirty trick, once this has happened they suspend the roads policing and increase cameras-hey presto the short term increase in roads policing is offset by the new cameras.
