I will be testing my car tonight at 33mph along hastings seafront to hone my skills at keeping up with normal road speeds. Do you think that the two gatsos will let me off?

The man needs sacking then kicking.

Hard!

Another click on my blood pressure ratchet! Does this mean that if I get myself trained up to police standard I can do 80 in a 30?
And how could he be found not guilty of speeding? If I do 36 in a 30, I'm accused of speeding and found guilty in my absence. How can 80 in a 30 not be speeding?

Shouldn't really complain about the hypocricy of yet another upholder of the law getting away with flouting it ("for police purposes").

After all, he's proved what we've known all along:

159mph can be perfectly safe on the motorway in the right circumstances.

In the right conditions, 120mph can be completely acceptable on an A road.

And he's demonstrated that there's nothing intrinsically unsafe in breaking a 30mph limit.

In fact, the case has conclusively proved that the limit in a 30 can be as much as (at least?) 30mph too slow for the conditions!

CPS appealing in 159mph Pc case

Pc Mark Milton argued that he was getting used to a new car
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is appealing against a decision to clear a policeman of dangerous driving after he reached 159mph in a patrol car.
Pc Mark Milton, 38, from Telford, Shropshire, was also cleared of speeding at Ludlow Magistrates' Court.

The officer was captured by the vehicle's video camera on the M54 in December 2003. His defence was that he was testing a new car.

The CPS have not said why they are opposed to last month's verdict.

District Judge Bruce Morgan acquitted Pc Milton on 18 May, calling him the "creme de la creme" of police drivers.

The court heard that the officer was recorded travelling at 159mph on the motorway near Telford in the early hours of 5 December 2003.

In reaching his verdict, Mr Morgan noted that two police officers who gave evidence for the prosecution, including West Mercia Police's senior driving instructor, had declined to classify the defendant's driving as dangerous.

The verdict was met with opposition from road safety campaigners who argued that such a speed could never be justified.
