And money badly spent

European research suggests that the external costs of transport (accidents, pollution, climate change, congestion and noise) amount to nearly 10 per cent of GDP. Over 90 per cent of these externalities are attributable to road transport.

Errrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

September 2 2005, 9:07 PM

That'll be buses then.

Or are you referring to one of those anti-car excuses for research.

European research suggests that the external costs of transport

accidents

Most of the "cost" attributed to accidents is the "cost" of "grief and suffering" !

Good grief.

How much more of this anti-car crap do we have to suffer?!

Anyway, apparently buses are even more dangerous than white van men!

pollution

Yes, we keep hearing about the harm done by "transport" and even "traffic" pollution.

We've even seen the official advertorials and infomercials on the TV about it.

Over a shot of a smoking car exhaust.

However, the original research was alluding to the harm done by vehicles such as buses and trains

And the power stations that fuel trams and trains.

A contemporaneous report for the NHS concluded that there were neither any health, nor any environmental reasons for limiting the uses of cars in cities.

A more recent one highlights the dangers of traffic pollution.

Appearing to cause cancers.

Around hot spots.

Centred on bus garages and depots!

climate change

Hahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caused by CO2 I suppose?!

Cars are responsible for a small proportion of traffic generated CO2.

Which is a small proportion of transport generated CO2.

Which is a small proportion of man's "industrial" generation of CO2.

Which is a small proportion of man's overall generation of CO2.

Which is a tiny proportion of the earth's generation of CO2.

Which itself is only a small proportion of greenhouse gases.

And, anyway, particular Greenhouse gases trap only specific wavelengths of heat.

And CO2 is already trapping all the heat in those wavelengths.

And anyway, anyway, rises in CO2 levels normally follow rises in temperature.

Not the other way round.

And anyway, anyway, anyway:

"Global" warming has been detected on globes throughout the solar system.

So that would be Solar Warming then!

But, I digress.

The "cost" of climate change is stuff like the flooding of low lying Pacific islands.

But the latest refinements of the global warmers computer models.

(The only place where man-made global warming actually exists).

Give revised sea level rises ranging from eight.

Not metres.

Not feet.

But inches.

And that's a maximum rise of eight inches.

To a fall of one inch!

congestion

Classic!

We've got to ban cars because getting stuck in congestion costs motorists!

And anyway, cars don't cause congestion.

Need proof?

Congestion has been increasing for the past decade.

But city centre traffic has been falling over the same period.

So it can't be the cars causing it, can it.

Of course, it couldn't possible be down to:

Bus lanes.

Pavement widenings.

Road closures.

Gating at traffic lights.

Etc, etc, ETC!

Could it?

and noise

Wot noise?

Cars are nearly silent these days.

Except when labouring over speed humps.

And negotiating motorist maddening traffic "calming".

amount to nearly 10 per cent of GDP.

Take out all the bullsh!t about global warming and the "cost" of grief and suffering.

And what are you left with?

The cost to the motorist!

Plus the large chunk of:

Over 90 per cent of these externalities are attributable to road transport.

Like buses and trams.

And even bicycles.

Which kill more pedestrians per passenger mile than motor vehicles.

Oh, and how would they know.

When no one can get the costs of rail transport.

For "commercial" reasons!

Next!
