Forty-one per cent of all journeys made in Britain in 2002/03 were under 2 miles in length. Around a quarter of all car trips were under 2 miles in length.

All bus journeys are only a few hundred yards in length.

And tram journeys not much longer!

 

And if that was true about cars:

There must be a heck of a lot of salesmen making single journeys of hundreds of miles a day.

Or a lot of people are doing hundreds of sub 2 mile journeys every day.

To keep the average annual mileage at 12,000.
