It seems to me that we are not only being fleeced by the government, but the major producers too. As a London cabby I'm only too aware of the almost daily increase in diesel at the pumps. This week alone has seen yet another hike in fuel prices, even though oil has gone down from $112 - $101 per barrel in the last few weeks.

So what are we going to do about it? This is my suggestion.

I see no point in repeating the previous tactic of emgargoing the refinery's or striking for a day. Motorists simply fill up the day before, it doesn't hurt the oil companiy's at all.

Thsi is what I have in mind. Beginning on May 1st 2008, we boycott one company, it could be any one of them, but my experience is that B.P. are certainly amoungst the most profiteering. We simply refuse to use their garages at all, under any circumstances until they lower their prices to what WE demand they should be. At the moment I would suggest £1.08/litre for diesel and <£1.00/litre for unleaded. Until they do we boycott ALL B.P. outlets until further notice. Let's see how long they last without our patronage.

Of course we must stand together as a nation of professional and casual road user's and be 100% firm about our intentions.

If this tactic should work, and I see no reason why it shouldn't, then we keep repeating the process with Taxaco, Ess, Total, Sainsbury, Tesco etc etc etc.

We COULD be a very very powerful consumer group, but we need unity to make it work.

I think it is an excellent idea, since it will work extremely well if, as you claim, the vast majority of motorists support your position. And if they don't then no harm done. It is far superior to holding the entire country to ransom, whether or not they support you, by blockading depots, driving slowly down motorways, etc. So go for it!
