Police file report on Prescott election punch
Police investigating the incident in which John Prescott punched a protester have passed a file to the Crown Prosecution Service.
North Wales Police says chief constable Richard Brunstrom has reached a decision as regards the incident involving the Deputy Prime Minister and Craig Evans.
Mr Prescott was involved in an altercation with the farm worker after Mr Evans threw an egg at him as he arrived for a General Election campaign event in Rhyl.
In a statement the force added: "A file will be submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service later today. No further comment will be made by North Wales Police for the time being."
North Wales police is refusing to say whether the file submitted to the CPS recommends any action against the Deputy Prime Minister, or Mr Evans.
After the incident, Mr Prescott said he was acting in self-defence, describing the fracas as "frightening and regrettable".
Gwyn Jones, the solicitor representing Mr Evans, said at the time his client "threw the egg in pursuit of a peaceful protest which became rather heated".
A spokeswoman for Mr Prescott said: "There will be no comment to make until a final decision has been announced."
The incident took place outside the Little Theatre, Rhyl on May 16. Mr Prescott emerged from his battle bus to angry jeers from protesters angry at New Labour's treatment of farmers and fox hunters.
The first egg thrown at Mr Prescott missed him but the second made contact on the left side of his head. The Deputy Prime Minister turned and punched Mr Evans before the pair began scuffling.
