Who is Shirley Jones?

Re fuel protest film.
Without FFA there would have been no film as the film crew were already making a film of FFA's direct action.
Who is this person, never heard of her before tonight, when I was told about this pathetic little web site.

Everybody knows who David Handley is, Chairman of PLF,
who sent the 60 day notice to government, who drew up the emergency users list, Shirley Jones, I think not.

Bye Bye Shirley, you can go back to sleep now and wake up when another protest starts and come in at the end which is what you appear to be trying to do now, but its too late Shirley! you need support and judging by the few participants in your forum I don't think the government have too much to worry about!

Shirley Jones

Shirley is continuing the fuel protest in a moderate and sensible manner and running a nice site. If there were more like her and less like Handley, public support would be much greater for the fuel protesters.

Shirley would never have threatened the National Health Service, as the farmers did last September, nor would she have intimidated tanker drivers.

I have my differences with Shirley, but I cannot fault the way she and her friends go about their protest.

"Give the devil her due" I say.

And another thing

Eat your heart out Rhys Park. You are a thousand miles behind Shirley, when it comes to running a web site or a protest. I can't fault the way she runs this board. Even her new deleting policy is OK with me. It works fine.

Oh Sorry

March 26 2001, 9:00 PM

Oh sorry Arthur but I have much more important things to do than run a website, and it will please you to know I have organised over 20 protests relating directly to fuel duty over the last 3 years.
Every one has been a success including the Cardiff Refinery demonstration, (thanks to some good mates)

Well Arthur why don't you get off your lazy ass and visit you MP as often as I visit mine to lobby him / her about fuel duty. That is the only way to get you message back to Whitehall

Regards
The LTOF Team

Success ?

March 27 2001, 12:22 PM

If your protests have been such a success, why are we still putting up with the witterings of the fuel tax protestors ?

Surely if you have won your struggle, they would all have packed up and gone home ?

Or is it actually because the "fuel" protestors have no interest at all in the price of fuel and are in fact nothing more than a bunch of right-wing, xenophobic, lard-arsed farmers who are more interested in toppling a democratically elected government than the rate of fuel tax.

FOR THE LAST TIME

March 27 2001, 2:47 PM

Genie, how many more times do I/we have to say this

I am not a right-wing, xenophobic, lard-arsed farmer bent on toppling a democratically elected government.

Why do you assume that wishing to have a reduction in fuel tax is solely the farmers/hauliers domain???. Can't I, as a member of the general motoring public campaign for a reduction?.

I'm more than willing to give this government a chance, as long as it rids itself of the 'corrupt' members in it's ranks. That's all I ask, as I believe was promised in their manifesto. Along with a referendum on Europe, which if I'm outvoted on I will abide by. But which I hope the government will also abide by if they are outvoted.

To MP

March 27 2001, 5:15 PM

No-one is singling you out, MP. Hope no offence was taken.

The point I was trying to make was that the core of the fuel protestors who are still live and kicking are not interested in the fuel issue at all; it is an excuse to try and whip up a whole other set of agendas - not least anti-European sentiments, better deals for single interest bodies such as farming and haulage (although more so the former). Why do you think the main fuel protestors from September 2000 are now campaigning under the FFA banner, or standing for Parliament backed by the UK Independence Party. Why, when the Govt offered assistance last autumn to hauliers, did most of them stop protesting ? Because they got something for nothing, and couldn't care a **** about the average Joe in his 1.4 saloon.

Pop over to the RUF message board and see how much of the discussion is about fair deals for average motorists, and how much is based on bashing Europe and squawking about how hard life is for farmers, and what a horrible man Mr. Blair is.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about cleaning up sleaze (although this weekends Sunday Times did a semi-serious comparison of both main parties on this, and Wee Willies bunch came out worse), and referendums on further European integration.

But if you seriously think that the people behind the fuel protests are really bothered about whether it costs you £40 or £50 to fill your tank, then think again.

Right conditions

March 21 2001, 2:09 PM

A this moment in time F&M is the main concern for the general public.
Fuel tax reduction will not go away, and the general public will be back once 1p etc is added to fuel.
And I believe with AG that this site will be fundamental to the cause.

X - CUT IN GOVERNMENTS FUEL TAX.

F&M

March 21 2001, 10:07 PM

Foot and mouth is not the main concern of the general public. The vast majority of people live in cities and have been totally unaffected. There is meat, milk, and all other dairy products in the shops. Other than the 1-2% of people directly affected most people have gone about their lives as normal. Obviously its a disaster if you are affected but the reality is that most people aren't.
