Just a quick message to reasure you that the fuel protestors have not gone away. Obviously and quite rightly so FMD has stolen the show. As many of you know we were gearing up for some serious protesting and would have been quite busy over the last few weeks.
Just to let you know that talks are still going on[not that they helped much in the past]
On Monday I was in a very rural area and was amazed to see diesel at the princly sum of 79.9 is this the most expensive in the country? Feedback on this would be much appreciated.
I have spend a lot of time recently in close communication with some farming friends, many who are very badly affected by the FMD crisis and can tell you all that when the time once again comes for protesting there will be even more support.
Now to the FMD crisis whilst this is very much off topic re Fuel protesting. However it is very much on topic for many people in the country, we also have to bear in mind that many hauliers have been badly affected workwise,my self included. So please continue to post anything that seems relevant.
I have also been busy supporting the Eppynt mountain protest in Powys. Yesterday they staged a mock funeral with about 500 people taking part. It was truly the most peaceful and dignified protest I have ever seen.

These wonderful people are protesting because MAFF in all their warped wisdom want to bury 1 million carcases in this beauty spot. The area is surrounded by farms and they would have to bring the carcases through my home County of Carmarthenshire, we have so far managed to escape the virus but we fear very much now that this will be history. Also the siting of the tip is all wrong enviromentally. It is on top of a steep hill and the area is mostly shale, it also connects to a water course that then connects to two minor rivers these rivers connect to two main ones so our fears are very real. Till later and please hang on in there.

Can anyone PlEASE tell us what the F*** is going on ????
We've had a petrol increase in the last couple of weeks, & the June 14th increase is looming.

We Are SUPPOSED to be FUEL PROTESTORS.

The PFL have got their fancy new site up > WHAT FOR ?
when all they are doing is sitting on their arses.

Tell them we want a statement of their intentions, otherwise we might just as well pack up and go home.

The Commission is about to investigate the reductions in vehicle excise duties in favour of road hauliers in France, Italy and the Netherlands

Today the European Commission decided to launch a formal investigation procedure into the support given to road hauliers in the form of reduced duty levels on diesel fuel adopted by the Dutch, French and Italian Governments during last autumn's oil crisis. The launching of this procedure is justified by the need to obtain a maximum amount of information enabling it to be established that these measures do not lead to any discrimination or distortion of competition that runs counter to the common interest.

The measures adopted by those three countries consist of lowering the excise duties on diesel fuel by means of a rebate system favouring heavy goods vehicles (and also, in the case of France, to vehicles used occasionally to carry passengers).

The Council Decision of 12 March 2001 to grant an exemption authorising France, Italy and the Netherlands to apply a lower rate of excise duty on diesel fuel used by commercial vehicles in no way prejudices the examination of the measures adopted by those Member States in the light of the Community rules relating to State aids, and more particularly Article 87 of the Treaty.

The Dutch, French and Italian Governments now have one month within which to put forward their comments..

The Commission itself will take steps to reach a final decision on these matters as quickly as possible. In the meantime it will continue its inquiries among other Member States also having adopted measures favouring road hauliers in the wake of last autumn's oil price rise in order to establish whether these have or have not caused distortions of competition at Community level.
