I partly agree but....

while I will be happy to see Labour back in it for another term it is vital they deliver what they promised on the NHS & Education or I may have to vote LibDem next time. I can't see myself voting Tory especially not if they elect Portaloo or Weirdecombe as the next leader as they abhor me even more than Toryboy Hague! I think some of the Fuel Protesters do have a legitimate case but it has been hijacked by those with a political agenda e.g. farmers. I'd like to see the scrapping of Vehicle Excise Duty on clean, efficient cars so that it does not act as a fixed cost which a retired pensioner in the countryside has to pay at the same rate as a Porsche driving stockbroker in the city. I'd also like to see more flexibility in the rate of fuel duty so that it comes down if the cost of petrol goes up. I don't however agree with large long term reductions as I feel it is wrong for our society to depend on guzzling fuel at the rate we have done in the past. I know the Americans do it, but they are wrong and the rest of us will eventually face higher prices and rationing because they are grabbing more than their fair share. We have to accept that oil and fossil fuels are going to run out one day and begin to plan for the event now.

Contrary to popular belief the Yanks actually do a lower milage than we do.  And although they have bigger engines they run a lot slower.

Yes they still consume more petrol, but their, and our, cars use a lot less fuel, and generate a lot less pollution, than they used to.

Not because of high taxes.

But because of vehicle regulations.

So what's stopped the Tony Party and their Euro friends (or Clinton and his environMental sidekick Gore for that matter) from decreeing that all cars produced after say 2005 should use fuel cells (they should be in production well before then)?

Couldn't be anything to do with loss of revenue?

No - must have been lack of parliamentary time.

After all they had vital legislation to introduce, like laws to enable a particular Tony supporter to stand for parliament, or to prevent a particular Tory supporter from making political donations, or to "decriminalise" the buggery of schoolboys, and criminalise the hunting of foxes.

So that's why tone needs a second term.

He needs to intoduce fuel cell cars, and ban foxes from hunting chickens.

Oh, and he somehow managed to forget about the NHS and education last time round.

His work here is not yet done : - (
