EXPRESS COMMENT

"Since last years protests, the price of petrol has become one of the clearest demonstrations that we are living in rip-off Britain. Now new research has confirmed the extent of this rip-off. The gapbetween prices here and those in the rest of Europe is widening. Meanwhile UK retailers' profit margins have doubled as they fail to pass on cuts in the oil price to consumers. Motorists have had enough of the greed of the oil companies. They simply will not tolerate the latest argument that companies need to recoup their previous losses. What about the losses made by farmers and rural businesses affected by Foot and Mouth, who cvan ill-afford overpriced petrol?
Companies such as BP which recently reported annual profits of £10 billion, can easily afford to make their prices more reasonable. The Government, too, takes more than its fair share in tax, it should not be suprised if furious motorists are once again driven to take matters into their own hands."

fuelling more discontent

I hate to say this Shirley ater the tremendous effort you guys in Wales and us lot did in Avonmouth just under 2 weeks ago that the motorists are now beginning to whinge again, this couldn't be the same motorists that couldn't be bothered to show their support for us even for a hour whether they be car drivers or hauliers I think now is the time to ask do we carry on fighting the corner for everyone or do we start to look after ourselves as hauliers we can only fight for others for so long without getting any support from them. It's the same old faces putting themselves forward for what ever s--- may hit the fan!!!

Car user support !

June 15 2001, 10:51 AM

If car users can not go to the refineries because they don't know anyone there or they feel intimidated by large trucks or even protesters themselves, I suggest they can help by :-

1) When notifacation of protests at refineries are announced they ALL go to the petrol stations and fill their cars up with as much fuel as they can afford.
Thus creating a panic buyiny spree which will then be aired on national news.

(A message to the government that alls not well).

2) Have CUT FUEL TAX stickers in the back of their cars. (or Yellow Ribbons).

Alot of private car users don't put CUT FUEL TAX stickers in their car windows for a varirty of reasons even if they support the protest.

a)Because they don't want to show to their neighbours that they can't afford petrol / Diesel. (Snob culture).

b)If they park their cars at a works car park, their bosses my think they ar trouble causers?

c)May get intimidated by Fuel Tankers on the motorway
(A few have flashed me!!! in support or not ?

If I have missed any points or raised any please reply.

The fuel protest will only be won with all three parties in unity TRUCKERS, FARMERS AND PRIVATE CAR USERS.

Its ALL about timing, please note the general public will all be using their cars for holidays between now and September and we need these people to support the protests, so lets not cheese them off.

wheel.
