Welcome to this Forum. It has been set up so that supporters of the Lower Fuel Tax campaign can discuss the ridiculous levels on Fuel tax in this country.
I visited some friends today who live right out in the sticks. All evening, their place stunk of.....well, s**t. It was even worse when we went out in the garden. It wasn't that normal, earthy, country-type smell you expect this time of year but something a damn sight less pleasant. They were quick to apolgise. The smell came from the farm up the road.
Apparently, the farmer had been boasting in the local pub all week about the "dirt-cheap" manure he was spreading. In fact, it was human excrement - and it's all the rage. I'm not joking.
It's OK though, it's been treated. All those nasty viral agents and bacteria are boiled into oblivion.
So, next spring when you purchase your English New Potatoes instead of that nasty foreign muck, try to forget what made them grow.
Note to forum owner: If you want to edit the s**t out of my post, can you kindly replace it with the word "poo"?
I suppose the point, if there was one apart from having a bit of fun, was that some of the practices that are commonplace in modern farming often appear quite vile and repulsive to us "townies".
It might explain why so many people have a problem taking the claims about imported produce serious - even if they are legitimate.
I lived in Germany for a few years and on numerous occasions got bitten by mossies. One time my hand and whole arm became seriously swollen and on going to the docs was informed I had probably been bitten by a mossie that had more than likely landed on a recently sprayed field. This was such a violent reaction the doc called all the medical staff in for a look-see.
What's the link I hear you ask?
Well the Germans sprayed untreated human sewage onto the fields.....
Don't know if they still do but the farmers round here certainly "inject" sewage into the fields with a sort of hypodermic plough device and struth does it stink for a few days!!!
