Response to BlameNet Anime: Log 01 Megastructure

Oops, posted as anonymous above.

In any event here is my review of the first Blame! anime short:

The short starts off with a giant fish sculpture carved into the wall of the City. It resembles a giant fossil from prehistoric times, perhaps reflecting how all living things in the City are going the way of the dinosaur.

We then are looking in through the window of the high speed elevavor from 5000 floors below. The passing City's superstructure is reflected in the window. A lone figure stands there, head down, waiting for the elevator to arrive at it's destination.

We are then treated to a montage of scenes throughout the City. It is strange to see it in color. In the manga, the black and white artwork add to the bleakness that is the world of Blame.

We see Killy sitting silently on the protrusion looking out over an abyss. We know this scene from the first story in the manga. He is waiting for the elevator to arrive shortly after he fails to save the young boy he believes had the Net Terminal gene.

The camera shows us more shots of the city. We occasionally have shots of a fish swimming in water. It resembles the fish we saw captured in sculpture on the wall. Occasionally a fish shaped sillouhette flashes across the City walls.

We see Killy from above. He is looking up at the camera perhaps at something beyond it. Maybe he looks at the thousands of City levels stretching up above him.

All throughout we are treated to an eerie soundtrack that resembles the end scenes of 2001 as David Bowman sits and ages in the white apartment the aliens have formed for him.

Abruplty, the end credits begin to roll. The short lasts perhaps five minutes.
