In book 3, page 111, Killy uses his safeguard eye thing for the first time on his hand, ending up analyzing what the glove's made of.
The outfit's called a skinsuit, and the material gets described as one of those ultra-complicated jumble of kanji that's impossible to translate exactly. "seed/increasing" + "regenerative/repairing" + "layer"
Whatever it is, he can take it off his arm. But from its naming and the way Dhomo's seen in his similar outfit right after creation (not to mention the way Sanakan's always materializes with her), there's a pretty good chance it's a part of him.
The only way we can be sure is if Killy has to crawl through one too many an inhabitated corridor, gets stressed out to the point of snapping, and runs off screaming and streaking during a nervous breakdown.
