It's not plugging. I'm sure no one wants to be associated with a post apocalyptic world. If you think about it, it's really a bit of a joke. The real brand makes general wear, the one in Blame makes damage resistant armor suits meant for military use.
I'm thinking the Japanese readers would get the joke, since I guess the Playford brand is an everyday reality for them.
