X men is about outsiders. You have two outsiders that join the group. One of those outsides can't touch anybody or they die, so she's evn more of an outsider. But then at the climaxce of the film Wolverine has to touch her to save her life (as far as I can remember) - dramatically speaking she should be saved, he should die, and the outsider is alone - but part of the X-MEN.
