You can never'tie things all up', you never can , and yet for some reason whole tv series' now are being made that purport to be able to run for 7 years at the end of which it was like they were made 7 years before that, and now is where we are. Enterprise, Smallville - Buffy in a way, since you have the how idea of a specific destiny.
Maybe... just maybe Enterprise is playing with that. Probably not, but it's nice to entertain the thought that perhaps the time-travel is some sort of commentary on the need to control the incontrollable - or that the Xindi - sounds a bit like Hindi - find out that 400 yeasr hence they'll be wiped out by humans. Seems to me we have the ol Hitler as a child arguement but from a rather uncomfortable perspective -- hopefullyy...
Take the Borg - against which pre-emptive genocide is a perfectly reasonable tactic to employ - wipe them out, all of 'em - not for what they are so much as for what they could be. Bt if inevitability gives you carte blanche to excuse any actions.... what do you have left? well no sleep and too much alchohol I guess
It kind of makes sense I suppose in an incresingly turbulent world to buy into the concept of destiny, in which all that is neatly sidesteped. But then you have to fulfil it somehow./ You have to fulfil this destiny which you made up cos you could't think of anything better at the time - this is what us humans call 'control'. I'm pretty sure it just involves layers of ambiguity to hide the absence of any real . Take language pour instance - how much of it is about not expressing something... but expressing what you don't know about somehting - learning to equivicate - but with a bit of panache, don't get me wrongo. Or take art - the famous French philosipher. Any1 who gets that wins a prize.
The world in whih I live doesn't have any clear answers - in fact I read today that we're in a 2nd more dangerous Nuclear age. 2nd? more dangerous?? For thse of yous like me who read say Orwell talking about the blimin first age... how long ago it seemed, how antiquated - so how how many ages are we gonna get? (And are we at least going to get some good writing out of it?) But that's a little off topic - I think the point I entered this paragraph with was that if there're no answers - if there's no truth without clarity, and similar sentiments like that - then is there any real alternative to Bush and his 'visions' of how to save the world. - and how will he tie things up come the prospect of cancelation (and syndication and repeats.... fine, like whatevvver_)
All of which I'm hoping can be adressed in the third season of Enterprise. And yeah I feel abit shame-faced at that fuckwity cop-out - but ya know what - I don't care!!!
