There really was nothing to it. I believe we were promised a film this time. Instead we just got yet another freakin Episode that wouldn't pass for a good Voyager episode.
The film certainly did have it's moments. But hardly enough to sustain it. I mean.... Star Trek 5 had its moments. In fact, I believe this is everything star Trek 5 was, but in an alternate reality kinda way. Trek 5 had a story that just wasn't realised well enough on the screen - let down by bad special effects and appalling direction... Nemesis on the other hand - the Special Effects were absolutely breath taking! But did anyone seriously believe 'little Picard' was really a little Picard? He had these enormous lips, and his voice was croaky... and his nose was all to obviously prosthetic - but I gotta give them credit, he did tell Picard that he'd been savagely beaten in the past. (Audiance sighs 'oh, I see why he doesn't really look like him')
I lay blame squarely down on Berman! Yet again!
The man seems to think Trek is all about being Time Travel, Kahn style villians and Space battles (Granted Nemesis did have a good space battle!!)
But Trek is not these suger coatings. The Trek I fell in love with had substance. A deep underlying philosophy that seemed different, yet adding to the great overall view of the universe.
Look at what Trek films have given us,
*TMP The almost destruction of the Earth by a massive entity that turns out to be a probe we sent out to search the galaxy for us. (Brilliant!)
*TWOK A device that can regenerate a planet and be the answer to saving billions of lives - but in the wrong hands, the ultimate weapon (Fuck-ing-A)
*TSFS Following the rules of the book, only to discover that you have made a mistake, and in order to right that mistake, you must break the rules of the book, and damn the consequences! (Odd umbered curse my arse!)
* TVH Returning to the authorities to face the consequences of your actions, but then saving those authorities when they are defenseless... Well, what are They going to do to you now? (Any wonder these films are so popular?)
* TFF Being hijacked so that a religious Alien can go seek out God, Retaking the ship once there, only to discover that you are just as curious to see what is out there (I blame the cheap bastards at Paramount for this one! the original script was great!)
* TUC Sworn enemy goes bankrupt and needs your help, Government is all for it, but the minions working for that government are not - Leading to conspiracy (It's just brilliant, ok!)
Now... Next Gen films......
* GEN Winge Winge, wish i did this, wish i did that. My life sucks, but then again this ones pretty dull too - maybe the problem is really just me (Boring!!)
* FC A look at a very unique Species - Before the Borg were overdone - A race bent on perfection, incorporating their tecnology and connecting everyone to a hive mind... Is this the way we are headed? - plus seeing how we eventually make it into this amazing future of space exploration (This was some good shit!)
* INS A fountain of youth planet, and the federation is part of a plan to steal it's properties for the good of the many. (Good premise - To bad the script was so shit)
* NEM Uhhh.... A clone of picard. hmmmmmm. A big space battle...... ok. A new Data - A new Data? .... Data gets blown up - no wait, he's still here, and he's been downloaded into this one .... What??
I hope you someone has read all of this.
