Anyway, that 'abstract' thing is my way of explaing the lack of any real emotion in this godamn film. I mean in a way you shouldn't have heart-wringin emotion and weepy strings for Data's death - that kinda worked for me. But I was amazed just how flat that final scene with Picard and Riker was -
... what's amazing really was that we had to wait 4 films to see the Enterprise over the Earth. There's so much that goes along with that simple image - as a filmmaker surely you'd not want to pass up the chance of using the feelings that you'll get from an audience seeing the Enterprise in orbit over Earth - or to see Picard in a sort of spaceoffice, looking out and seeing the Enterprise
- or seeing it leave spacedock and heading off for new adventures to the strains of Goldsmith - or whatever any half-decent composer would come up with - how can that not inspire?!
- or seeing say Picard, Crusher and Worf beaming downwith 3 or 4 other officers - fairly wide shot - wierd alien world, hints of a mysterious old civillisation.....
Why would you not choose to make use of such effective cultural resonataphors?
