A real unified field theory would show the way.
Then you could have artifical gravity, "inertial dampers" and a "spacedrive". Maybe even faster than light - the trick is not to actually travel faster than light in your local region. That "warp bubble" idea might not actually work - but there's other ways.
As for artificial gravity - it seems that it's already been done - using rotating magnetic fields can generate a gravitional effect 10 to the power of 40 times higher than predicted by Relativity. If this is confirmed by other experimenters then this will be the first proof that Relativity is not bullet proof. There is Heim's Quantum theory, however, which did predict this link between magnetism and gravity (back in the 50s) and also made some other predictions that couldn't be tested back then but can be tested (and are being tested) now using modern particle accelerators. So far it's holding up. The theory doesn't contradict Einstein, but refines and adds new concepts in the same way that Einstein built on Newtown and other earlier work.
Also, all faster than light ships should be piloted by women with really great tits... |
