a sad observation, and a question

My school is located about 15 miles form a major airport, 10 miles from a military airfield, and less than two miles from two small private airstrips. At any time on a normal day we see and hear several airplanes in the sky. Apparently F-16 fighter jets from the airfield have been patrolling Houston airspace. Yesterday morning we heard one fly over, and our third graders were scared because they heard a plane. It broke my heart to see their sudden fear.

On another note, I wonder if any of the families of the lost souls will be denied life insurance benefits because the company will claim the loss of life was due to "an act of war" and refuse to pay the claim?

the Act of War thing too, but I read an article about how all the insurance cos are going to be raising (our)rates to cover the money they'll have to pay out...

It's terrorism, technically, not actually an act of war...

I'm still kinda confused tho!

Oh..those poor kids! I've wondered how all our children will react too... ya know they've seen, or heard, at least enough to have questions and concerns! I disagree with those who say to not tell them anything...not knowing is much worse than knowing, imho! their little imaginations will fill in the blanks if they aren't told the truth, or at least a version of it they can understand! My teen's high school was letting them watch it live, and answering questions, Tues., and have heard from friends that the middle schools were not, nor were the elementary schools. My kids have watched it, and we've talked about it. My little ones made me cry Tues pm, after I'd put them to bed, a few minutes later they got up saying they couldn't sleep...turns out they were upset for the kids who'd lost family, and who was gonna take care of the latter, etc. I told them I was sure they would be terribly sad, but that they had family who would care for them, and then we all said a prayer for all involved. Think that made mine feel better, and have noticed that each night, on their own, mine have added prayers for the victims and their families.
I sure hope the insurance co's won't try and weasel out on the claims! That'd just add insult to injury!!!
love and hugs,

I know.

I am not surprised at all by this. Children are so caring and wonderful. Because of their gentle hearts, our children will suffer. All we can do is hold their hands, be honest, and pray.

As for the insurance companies, I haven't heard anything definite yet. I did hear something about this being the reason for insurance companies having insurance themselves.

I heard military planes yesterday, and the first few times I heard them I literally felt my heart jumping like crazy and broke into a sweat.
They're opening some airports, but I don't imagine I'll feel safe for a long time to come...if ever.

Can't answer that question at all, tabby.

I must admit it hadn't occurred to me about insurance. It had occured tome about how they would have death certificates for those who can't be identified. ???

We've had F16 jets flying over our area the last few days even when the commercial ban was on. I think military planes have been patrolling the skies all over as a security measure.

Taxes could be worse - suppose we had to pay on what we THINK we're worth... ;)
