that I feel I live in..

Finally got word from all relatives in NYC. Everyone's safe. Thank goodness. Even the people I didn't realize were in danger. Like my cousin's wife who I didn't know worked on Wall St. She heard the first plane hit, and disobeying the managers who told her it was safer to stay put, left her building, went to Staten Island and then on to NJ from there... all before everything came crashing down and transport was shut down. My uncle doesn't go in till 10, so my cousin called him and told him to not bother going to work (he worked right near the WTC)

Umm.. lessee ... Hunter is still on 'vacation'. He's calm, I'm not. I'm putting on a good act for those that don't know me really really well though.

My sister's rabbit passed away Monday. It had been very ill for a few days. She'd said she wasn't going to get another because of her severe allergies. Tuesday, thay got a new rabbit. Sis would have been very miserable without something to pet. She's a snugglebunny herself...

My allergies are kickin my butt this week. Not sure what's out there - ragweed maybe. It's also setting off my asthsma, but that's still under control, no worries there.

My mom, who I love love love, started smoking as soon as she started feeling well enough to. It didn't help that her livein and his son smoke. And all her friends smoke. So even before she started smoking, she was around 2nd hand smoke.

So, guess what? Yup. She's back in the hospital as of yesterday. No infection, but with chronic bronchitis, smoking and asthma, you don't need an infection to not be able to breathe... she had 2 runs to the ER yesterday. The first time, she decided that she wasn't 'sick enough' to go to the ER so had her bf take her to the mall, where she went shopping instead.... at least she bought a washing machine... the second time, they went to a closer hospital so she didn't have time to change her mind. I don't know how sick she is really - she talks on the phone, but she's on oxygen all the time at the hospital and can't even get off it long enuogh to take a shower yet ... they are keeping her 4-5 days this time.

Her breathing treatments don't seem to help. Just the oxygen, which is very scary. I've been searching the internet for more info ...

I'm so relieved for your cousin and everyone else in your family that they got through that dreadful day ok. There must be so many people thanking Whoever looks after them that they gave into their instincts and took off like that. I can't stop thinking of all of you over there and how hard it must still be.

I'm sorry about your mum - I hope she can stop the smoking - I've seen what smoking can do to people and it's not pretty

I'm really relieved to hear all your loved ones in NYC are ok. You and your hunter and Mom have my prayers hon. I really hope she gets better real soon and gives up those cigarettes.

Update to my update..

Mom's bf just called. He's really scared. My mom is crying and has no short term memory at all. I haven't seen my mom cry ever except the night my dad passed away. Bf can't seem to get any info from the people at the hospital. He doesn't want my sister (who's in town) to come talk to the docs cause she and him don't get along and he's afraid she'll iritate the doc.

And he did confirm my worst fear - it isn't chronic bronchitis. It's emphysema... and my mom lied to me when I asked her about it after she got out of the hospital last time...

So, looks like I'm takin a road trip tomorrow .. will let ya'll know what happens..

I'm bringing duct tape for anyone that annoys me

I'm so sorry about your Mom! I can't say much more than that since I don't know anything about asthma or emphysema. I do hear from exsmokers how extremely difficult it is to break that habit.

{{{Shana's Mom}}}} Thanks for updating us thought and drive carefully, please. i know you usually do but thinking about these things while driving distracts you , I certainly know. So just be careful and come back to us and your Hunter needs you,too, you know.

Oddly enough, I called the nurse on her floor at 12:30am to see how she was doing. The nurse says 'she's stable' I'm like ... stable how? She says ... she's awake, I'll let you talk to her!!!????!!!

So, my mom answers and says "It's 12:30 in the morning! Why are you calling?" She was pretty breathless, so I didn't let her talk. She laughed at a joke I told her and didn't start coughing - good sign.

So ... she's not doing great, but she CAN tell time!

My Hunter is driving me home. He hates hospitals but he's a really really good guy...

At least my sister will be happy to see us - she wanted to show us her new (KA-Chew!) rabbit!

I know how horrible this is for you. I'm so sorry that your mother is going through this. It's difficult to watch our parents do something they would beg and plead us not to do. All you can do is be strong for her and be honest with her. She needs you, but you know that.

I completely understand why your sister would want another wabbit! They can be sweet sweet little pets. I hope this one isn't too sneezy. Has she named it (him/her?) yet?

I don't think I want to ask where you are or what you're up to in the picture but you look well!

Is this a men thing? Joe hates going to hospitals etc too. He goes but disappears at regular intervals cos he can't bear it although he wants to see the person, bless him.

First, a big bear hug for you and your Mom. I have bouts with my Mom now and then on her health issues. Very draining.

Now, if she has emphysima (sp), her BF and his son need to seriously consider quitting smoking or move the hell out! But, she cannot return to a house filled with smoke, 2nd hand or otherwise. I hope the situation can be resolved.

What a zoo!

My mom is doing ok. Much better than Friday. Thank you everyone for your prayers and vibes and everything...

She's still in the hospital - I think she has bronchitis now. I never got to see her doc, but did wind up running a bunch of errands for her and I saw her twice. I wanted to see her more... but her friends kept coming by - finally I told her that she's not there to entertain, she's there to get well. So today, none of her friends are coming over. I hope!

I sorted out a bunch of stuff having to do with making sure she was fed stuff she can eat (no pork products etc) and about her breathing treatments being on time. I also told my mom that she has to tell the nurses if she's gonna go outside with her 'guests'. Sheesh...

As of the time I left today, her wheezing is less than mine (go figure - stress sets off my asthma...) but she's on oxygen almost 24 hours a day. As far as I know, she won't need it at home. She might go home 2-3 days and my mom told me the doc told her she could go back to work next week...

Uh ... did I tell ya'll my mom's BOSSY? I got her in touch with the floor supervisor, who turned her over to the head hospital nurse. So if she has any problems .... they want her well so she'll quit makin them crazy...

Anyway, the upshot of it is, her bf panicked and called me (not that I mind) because he didn't think they were treating my mom right. But that's sorted out now.

Her condo is a smoke free zone - no one smokes inside since her last hospital visit. I was over there - not smokey. I'm just gonna read the riot act to her bf about quitting - all three have to quit...

And the pic? I had a good angle on what I wanted to take a pic of .... if I climbed on top of the tub at this model house...

I'm gonna nap now...
